Mod 2 Test Tip - Gears
Posted by: philshaq - 15-07-12, 06:59 PM - Forum: General - Replies (21)

Hi guys,

Got my MOD 2 test on Tuesday this week, I've been learning on an ER6n, which  has a really long (bordering on ridiculous) throw from 3rd down to 2nd and 2nd to 1st, I've got used to it but the method I use takes a little longer hence my question;

Example of a 40mph zone, travelling along in 6th gear, approaching a junction / red light.

Is it acceptable to down-shift before breaking if approaching a junction / sequential change down a couple of gears and then just knock it down the gears from say 4th to first without engaging the clutch if you know you have to stop. (does that make sense!?)

The alternative is to use a lower gear (4th / 5th) to enable me to have enough time to get down through the gears sequentially while using the engine braking.

(by sequential I mean - down a gear - engage clutch to bite point - down a gear - engage to bite point - etc as opposed to clutch in, down all gears while coasting up to the stopping point with the clutch disengaged)

I'm pretty much confident of everything else, and would be 100% happy if I had a better gear box! but its too close to my test date to swap the bike really...

Thanks in advance for all the helpful / piss taking responses to my clearly green riding skills!!

Phil

  REAR HUGGER - FZS600 '98-'91
Posted by: markaboot - 15-07-12, 05:42 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

Hello,

I bought this rear hugger off ebay sometime last year and it has been sitting around collecting dust so its time to sell it.
It has never been fitted to my bike as it was advertised wrong, it will not fit the 2002-2003 bike.

It has was fitted to the previous owners bike so this is not a new item but its not far off.
The previous owner had just got the bike and removed it as it was not to his taste.
There are several minor marks, so minor they dont show on the photos, and a couple of bigger marks I have shown below.

If this fit my bike I would be happy have it on there, once its on you would never notice the marks.

[Image: 599920_10150981016508725_2094840851_n.jpg]

The only damage is here where the plastic has been squashed a little and split (its only split at the edge) this is easily cured and hidden with a suitable washer.
Tbh I would fit it with washers anyway to spread the load.

The other big mark is this which seems to be muck stuck to a bit of glue left behind by a sticker. Its hidden by the rear brake hose guide bracket thingy anyways.

As you can see I gave the hugger a good clean prior to attempting to fit it.

Here is the manufacturers website for a couple more pics and info etc.http://www.simpson-detour.co.uk/shopitem...2&OCT_ID=9

I bought this for £55 and would like £55 for it. You are welcome to collect or I can post at extra cost to the buyer.
New this would be £75 so grab a bargain  Big Grin

I'm happy to answer any questions.

  Happy Days!
Posted by: coansha - 15-07-12, 04:07 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

So here's the deal....

Been in Australia for last 8 years, always ridden offroad but got my road licence before I went there to ride enduro. Had a few Katos and a great time riding offroad paradise.
So the missus loses the plot and we have to leave, had planned another offroad but after being spolit in Oz then all just seems to much hassle... May well look at holidays in europe for that.
So summer hits Cheshire and all I see is road bikes (I'm from Fort WIlliam originally) and thinks to myself i've got to get one of those. But what to get?
Thought a R6 would do but always fancied a bit of touring and then I saw it... Fazer 1000! 2004 Mark 1, on ebay, 60 miles away and pictures look great.
3 days later after some swift negotiation it's mine and on to the open road I gingerly step.... Well f'me what a scream!
I could not have landed more on my feet... The bike pulls like a train and is sooo easy to use. Now realising how little I know about road riding but loving every minute of it!
Taking it really easy (with the occassional flick of a wrist to scare me) and trying to learn how to ride without dropping my beauty.
Feeling like I got just the right machine, sure it's far to powerful for a first on-road machine but how smooth is it to ride and ticks so many boxes so well...
So new to the sport, new to the forum and new to the bike but right now just feeling I couldn't have landed on my feet any better.
Now for some decent weather and a few blasts over to North Wales to really put a smile on my face (avoiding the several hundered speed traps).
Oh happy days!

hi guys, joined yesterday so thought i had better introduce myself,
i am 47 years young and been into bikes since my teenage years, never been without a bike from the age of 16, so yes, ive had more than a few, mainly sports bikes , from gs1000/gsx1100 (back in the early eighties they were sports bikes, lol ) to gixxer1000,s , zx10r, r1,s etc,, still got my r1,,, but my real fetish is hayabusas,,, anyway, i also wanted something a bit more upright and for two up touring, as i love going abroad round europe, so about a month ago i bought my gen 1 fazer 1000, i had ridden one before and liked it so i knew what i was getting, its in great condition with only 13000 miles, totally standard, or it was,,, i have fitted hel brake lines , dropped the forks through the yokes 6mm and have just today ordered a r6 shock conversion from devilsyam of here,, other planned mods are a slip on can,, akro or yosh, a ivans jet kit, and when the tyres that are on wear out , bt021,s , i will fit some mich road 3,s,
anyway thats enough for now
all the best

  front subframe vibration
Posted by: bludclot - 15-07-12, 07:19 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (4)

my fairing, light unit and screen vibrate from around 1600 - 3000 rpm. this is the very last issue left to fix on my bike, i've done all the rest now including the obligatory clutch rattle!

i think it's the top of the screen that makes the noise as i can get hold of it and the noise stops, so if i can stop that rattling that will do.

to fix this i have tried 3 things:

firstly i removed the screen and added some ikea furniture style clear rubber pads between the screen and the fairing. no difference.

then i bought grahamb's breaker front clock bracket (and had it powder coated) and fitted it instead of the original. it make a marginal difference - it brought the vibration about 1000 rpm lower down the rev range.

yesterday i ran it in and mechanic marc and i balanced the carbs. this made no discernible difference (to the vibration).

so now i am stuck. any ideas or suggestions please?

Fancy that big trip around the country but worried about the cost

No spare cash as always but have itchy feet and fancy heading off exploring. BBC Click talked about this website http://campinmygarden.com - what a brilliant idea. Hooking up regular people - one with a spare bit of space in their garden and another who wants good value camping. I had a quick look and nearby there a nice looking places for £5 a night. Thanks BBC good find
