  Replacement screen
Posted by: violetsdaddy - 22-08-12, 01:25 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (26)

I'm after another replacement screen as the MRA one isn't doing it for me.
I've seen this one on a picture on google but I'll be damned if I can find one for sale.
Can't even find it on the site as they are selling the MIVV exhaust.
Anybody know what this is, and where it may come from??

  New downpipes fitted

Just fitted some from Sandybikesspares. The old ones came off easily. New ones went on like a dream. Look great. The pipes came day after ordering. Test ride tomorrow. Something's bound to go wrong now.

  Rev/fuel counter madness!
Posted by: bozboz - 21-08-12, 08:49 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Just tried searching the forum for a solution but no luck, so here goes....
Been sorting this bike out today and have a couple of problems. Namely the rev counter and the other is the fuel gauge.
So firstly it idles correctly, no TPS error that I can see. However the needle sometimes when being reved gets stuck at 5K rpm! Sometimes it happens on the way up sometimes on the way down. I thought it might be the TPS setting so checked that and adjusted it (but it was reading correctly anyway!). I think it maybe a loose connector but why then does it rev past 5k and revs fine before 5k? I've also checked and syncronized the carbs today so they are working ok...hasn't stopped the sticking needle!
Additionally the problem of the fuel gauge isn't working (-related?) All other dash lights/fuel lights/speedo working fine. I have taken the float out of the tank and that is freely moving and the connectors are fine that end -it was 'half' working when I bought (aka reading in the area but not accurate) it but it was stood for some time before I filled it up. Now it just reads beyond full all the time, regardless of actul level (began doin this before I took the float out).
Any help/suggestions appreciated.
Cheers BozBoz  Smile

  Hello from the rock
Posted by: 3legs - 21-08-12, 08:24 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (4)

Hello from the Isle of Man. Although I have been riding bikes for quite a few years now, this is the first time I have joined a forum - better late than ever!!
I am a mid fifties greying rider and have had two fazers, one naked FZ6 and two thundercats - I think there must be a link there somewhere. My current bike is a silver 2000 fazer 600 with about 24,000 miles on it. I really like touring on it and recently did a track day at Donnington. It was raining, so couldn't really give it stick. The fazer  has good acceleration and fantastic brakes. The back brake not too good though and I have just had new pistons and seals put in (about £85 using proper yamaha parts).
The thundercat is a seriously underrated bike and I once rode one non stop from Brno back to the IOM. I really don't think I would have preferred to have done it on any other bike - comfy and economical. I have just fitted a SP performance oval stainless can on the fazer and it gives a really nice deeper sound. I intend to keep the baffle in as I don't really like loud exhausts. It was only about £120 on ebay or direct with SP.
There are some great tips in this site and I look forward to posting further.

what do people run front and back?

I've just put some more air in front and back, up to the recommended 32/36 front to back. Feels a lot more direct. Is the back too high for when it gets warm on the motorway?

Comments appreciated,

Cheers,

Phil

  Complete and utter newbie
Posted by: Nik86 - 21-08-12, 04:03 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (17)

Hi all,
Just got licence a couple of months ago after years and years of blathering on about it. Tons of mags, websites, unconvinced test rides on other bikes from beemers to sv650's to bonnevilles etc convinced me that what i really, really needed/lusted over is a fazer. So...last Tuesday, perhaps a little rashly? on ebay I bought a 2000 fzs600 with 22000 miles on the clock and glorious, pristine shiny black paintwork. The seller's feedback was all great so wasn't overly worried although never having sat on one I was mostly concerned I wouldn't even be able to touch the floor. Anyway, by 10 on Friday morning an item of beauty was sat on my driveway and thankfully despite being 5'4" it fits like a glove. I'm making every excuse under the sun to get out on it, even volunteered to go for nappies at 10 last night. Still break into a sweat at the prospect of a hill start/awkward parking spot/cobbles but so far so good - nothing too embarrassing. In short, I'm the happiest 41 year old I know and my long-lived dream's come true, after my 2 kids coming along this has got to be the next best thing! I'm waffling and I don't know bikes but I've got nothing but praise for the little black missile outside.

FZS600 on a trackday. Any advice?
Posted by: Ben600 - 21-08-12, 03:59 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

Hi all,

I have been lucky enough to get a place on the 'Bennetts Ultimate Track Day' with Cal Crutchlow, Scott Redding, James Toseland and Jamie Whitham at Oulton Park!

I fully intend to take my trusty little FZS600 Fazer (Y )reg , but as this is my first trackday, I am unsure what preparations, if any, I should make to the bike. So any help, advice or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time and help,

Ben
