  USD front end swap?
Posted by: blue_faz600 - 29-08-12, 05:39 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

Has anyone heard of a late model R6 front end being mated to a box eye fazer? The reason I ask is that there are numerous options for the rear shock but I haven't seen many fork mods! There are a few guys on here with gen 1 1000's with R1 front ends and I wondered whether it was possible with the 600/R6?

  ECU
Posted by: dolau - 29-08-12, 01:31 PM - Forum: General - Replies (29)

You might have seen my plaintive laments on my FZ6S2 (2009 with 8k miles on the clock) and how corrosion has eaten the pins off my ECU. :rolleyes

I felt that as the ECU is under the tank next to the airbox and out of the general water that failure of said part is a bit premature literally on its third birthday... especially when the initial estimate from the bike shop was £2k and asked Yamaha if they could help with the cost. It did seem an unusual failure as I havent seen it mentioned anywhere else

Well after two weeks they tell me that I only need a new ECU and not the replacement key set and that I can order it from my local dealer- and that is it  Sad - hope this information has been of help

perhaps I was a little naive in that I thought that Mr Yamaha might help with say half the cost of the unit or as a gesture of goodwill  or replace it free of charge as it is not a serviceable item- but no

So- I am searching for a 2009 non ABS ECU although I have seen a 'virgin' ECU on Eaby for £180 guaranteed and I am in contact with them. Also seen American ECU's for about $400 but they are not suitable as they dont have an imobiliser. :'(

Not sure what to say to other owners- probably not a good idea to annually take your ECU off the loom and clean the contacts but otherwise how will you know its about to corrode into scrap?

  one for our resident plod
Posted by: sadlonelygit - 29-08-12, 12:53 PM - Forum: General - Replies (11)

godson is getting stopped on a more than regular basis.
he's got a runner 180 and often has a pillion. i'm guessing plod see 2 up scooter and no L plate and think 'AHA!'
now he's no angel, but last week he had several producers.
is there any way of finding out why he's being pulled so often (coming up as a marker on the PCN). or perhaps they're pulling 'with reasonble suspicion' hoping for a collar and not actually checking PCN.
either way he's getting mightily pissed off with it all and i fear that eventually he's going to say something that will get him in hot water.
any ideas

Oxford Humpback Tank / Tail pack
Posted by: phild - 29-08-12, 10:42 AM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (12)

Used but in excellent condition, can be used as a tank bag or tail pack. Magnetic base with map case, expandable, Rain cover, detachable from base to convert into rucksac, No bungees ( as I always ditch them and use straps that don't damage my bike), it does have the strap that goes around the headstock.

£30 plus P&P, or collect from North Somerset.

Posted by: Jsuddaby - 29-08-12, 12:38 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (29)

Hi im getting nonstop earache from the wife about her pillion position and need to get hold of extended footpegs for her.  Im about as usefull as a chocolate teapot when it comes to making things so could really do with buying some.  I know it's a long shot but if anyone has any lying around or would be willing to make some all expenses paid and labour please let me know and we can sort something out. I have a 1998 fzs 600.

  drop bars/ ace bars
Posted by: ponkster - 28-08-12, 10:07 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (1)

I know there has been a number of posts about how to use clip ons - but has anyone fitted ace/clubman bars and did they fit without having to move the fairing?

I dont think they are going to fit but I think the only way to find out is to get a set and try,  but it would be good to know if it has been tried before.

  2003 vs 2004 model
Posted by: Cruiser89 - 28-08-12, 06:10 PM - Forum: FZ6 / FZ6 Fazer - Replies (10)

Hello! can anyone tell me what is the difference between a 04 Fazer and a 03 one? Im looking to buy a fazer and I heard different stories about these two... my friend sais that older models are more reliable and faster from newones so anything up to 2003 is good (thats his opinionTongue) . From what I read there has been some changes since 2007? (less BHP) I really like the looks of a 2004 model but I dont know whether I should go for a 2003 or 2004 Fazer...

is 2004 model better or worse from a 2003 fz6?

Cheers!
