  More bottom end power required
Posted by: Fazerjon - 30-08-12, 09:02 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

My 2012 FZ1N feels like it needs more bottom end power. Dont get me wrong, it goes like s**t off a shovel, but still feels slightly bogged down from the lower end of the rev range.
Engine mods so far are: Mivv Titanium end can, K&N air filter and Ivans Fuel Cut Eliminator.
Is it worth getting it re-mapped, if so what do I need to do before hand if anything? Also how does the Power Commander work?
Any advice or info greatly appreciated!  :rolleyes

  Electrical Question
Posted by: dickturpin - 29-08-12, 10:11 PM - Forum: General - Replies (10)

Just rigging up a 12v 5w bulb/holder onto a cigar lighter plug so I can have some evening light when camping. The question is how long dare I run it off a fully charged battery and still expect the bike to start the next morning?

Thanks

Young male drivers of Hampshire and Surrey...
Posted by: Fazerider - 29-08-12, 08:27 PM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

... I'm sorry to have to break the news, but the relative awesomeness of your motor car does not have any bearing whatsoever on the rules of the road.

The (cage-bound) journey home from visiting my mum this afternoon was uneventful until I reached little village of Seale, and two freshly collided cars. Considering the abysmal road surface, lack of width, tightness of the bends and awkwardness of the junctions, 25 mph through there can be regarded as suicidally fast. From the state of the vehicles, shocked bystanders, ambulance and fire engine, it appears excess speed may have been a factor. Since it looked as though the junction was going to remain blocked for a considerable time while they cut whatever remained of the occupants out, I took a 5 mile detour.

Next up it was nearly my turn. Spotting a gap in the overtaking lane on the A331, I pulled out to pass some slow traffic... as I drew level with the car at the back of the slower queue he started indicating. "Surely he's not thinking there's room?" I thought.
Well, apparently he did.
What's more, he was most displeased to find me inadvertently tailgating him and conveyed his irritation by stamping on the brakes.

Dear Dickhead 2,
I know it's tiresome getting caught in slow traffic and people behind you having first dibs on the gaps in the overtaking lane, but the simple fact is that gaps are available to them first. According to the highway code, that you've been held up longer or have a car with more street cred than the one that's passing you, does not give you priority.
You should also note that your car is only faster if you use the pedal on the right.

Anyway, he turned off towards Farnborough without any more attempts to cause an accident.

Taking the later Hawley exit I manoeuvred over to the right hand lane to cross the busy roundabout on the A325. When the opportunity arose I accelerated away, only to discover a lad in what he doubtless refers to as his "bling motor" emergency braking to my left.

Dear Dickhead 3,
The left lane there is clearly marked as left-only. The white hatched area you were on is not a lane. Vehicles on UK roundabouts give way to the right, they do not expect to give way to traffic on the left and as a result, no matter if your car is of greater status, drivers cannot be expected to be looking for vehicles approaching from that direction.

He was at least kind enough to offer an explanation for his poor driving before turning off into the housing estate. Apparently he was masturbating.
At least, I assume that was what he meant.

Thought is was clutch but appeared to be electrics!
Posted by: nitemare - 29-08-12, 07:41 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

On the 6th July I travelled from Norwich to Derby for a bike rally. Dispite going through soem floods and being diverted due to closed roads the bike coped.

Until I got to Nottingham and started a slow uphill crawl then the bike started to 'judder'. At first I thought it was the clutch getting hot and sticky but now I believe it was water getting into the sparks.

The odd thing is shortly have pushing the bike to somewhere safe off the main road and a mate riding it up a lane and back it was fine. I had no problems with the journey or since.

I can only assume that water on the top of the engine and the slow up hill shorted out a couple of cylinders. Eeven though it wasn't raining then!

Anyone else experienced this?

didn't bother to turn up to crown court............again!
he used to live up the road from me and he was a pretty sad individual back then, but ignoring a crown court.......well pretty sure there's going to be a 5am knock on his door in the near future.

  Helmet advice
Posted by: HarryHornby - 29-08-12, 06:16 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

I'm looking to change my helmet, does anyone know of any helmets that fit my list of "must haves"?  I currently have a laser fibre d1, it's my first and only helmet, I may even stick with one of these, but wondered what else is out there.
Good for glasses wearers
Has a pinlock ready visor (my current helmet has pinlock and I swear by it, in 3 1/2 years of commuting only my glasses have ever fogged up)
Has double D ring - I'm sceptible of how a quick release system would perform being used day in day out, commuting.
I've found helmets that seem to match 2 of my 3 requirements but not all 3.
Cheers in advance.

  USD front end swap?
Posted by: blue_faz600 - 29-08-12, 05:39 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (3)

Has anyone heard of a late model R6 front end being mated to a box eye fazer? The reason I ask is that there are numerous options for the rear shock but I haven't seen many fork mods! There are a few guys on here with gen 1 1000's with R1 front ends and I wondered whether it was possible with the 600/R6?

  ECU
Posted by: dolau - 29-08-12, 01:31 PM - Forum: General - Replies (29)

You might have seen my plaintive laments on my FZ6S2 (2009 with 8k miles on the clock) and how corrosion has eaten the pins off my ECU. :rolleyes

I felt that as the ECU is under the tank next to the airbox and out of the general water that failure of said part is a bit premature literally on its third birthday... especially when the initial estimate from the bike shop was £2k and asked Yamaha if they could help with the cost. It did seem an unusual failure as I havent seen it mentioned anywhere else

Well after two weeks they tell me that I only need a new ECU and not the replacement key set and that I can order it from my local dealer- and that is it  Sad - hope this information has been of help

perhaps I was a little naive in that I thought that Mr Yamaha might help with say half the cost of the unit or as a gesture of goodwill  or replace it free of charge as it is not a serviceable item- but no

So- I am searching for a 2009 non ABS ECU although I have seen a 'virgin' ECU on Eaby for £180 guaranteed and I am in contact with them. Also seen American ECU's for about $400 but they are not suitable as they dont have an imobiliser. :'(

Not sure what to say to other owners- probably not a good idea to annually take your ECU off the loom and clean the contacts but otherwise how will you know its about to corrode into scrap?

  one for our resident plod
Posted by: sadlonelygit - 29-08-12, 12:53 PM - Forum: General - Replies (11)

godson is getting stopped on a more than regular basis.
he's got a runner 180 and often has a pillion. i'm guessing plod see 2 up scooter and no L plate and think 'AHA!'
now he's no angel, but last week he had several producers.
is there any way of finding out why he's being pulled so often (coming up as a marker on the PCN). or perhaps they're pulling 'with reasonble suspicion' hoping for a collar and not actually checking PCN.
either way he's getting mightily pissed off with it all and i fear that eventually he's going to say something that will get him in hot water.
any ideas
