  It’s been a while
Posted by: Graham53 - 09-01-20, 12:12 AM - Forum: Introduction - No Replies

Hi foccers
It been a while since I last logged on so I thought I’d go for a re introduction
After a pedestrian thought it would be fun to run into the side of my Gen 1 while I was going through a set of lights, cue damaged fairing damaged carbon in fill panel , bent bars, dented tank , bent radiator , broken carbon rad guards, a broken tibia, chipped kneecap and 2 broken fingers I sadly parked the old girl up , once plod let me pay £250 8 weeks later to get it delivered back for the privilege of seizing it. I repaired the damage as much as I could but it was never the same so I parked her up again and went back to the wife’s 125 commuter But the Fazer bug didn’t go away and I decided on trying a 2013 Gen 2 which so far I’m quite pleased with.
I took a quick pic before leaving work as I know ya love a picture

  RIP Blackheath tea hut
Posted by: dazza - 08-01-20, 08:46 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Locals probably heard already but looks like this will be out of action for a while....if not permanently as I hear the local council have wanted rid of them for years.
Lucky no one was badly hurt as far as I know.
Makes you wonder how the hell anyone can do this but I have seen first hand the amount of absolute dangerous twats driving like idiots in and around London.

Any experience of BMW boxers, and in particular their gearbox.
Posted by: VNA - 08-01-20, 07:41 PM - Forum: General - Replies (16)

OK, so VNA wants to get hold of a new or lightly used BMW R1250R.

But here's the thing – the test bike I rode last year had a quick shifter.  I asked the dealer if it could be disabled and he said no and advised me just to use the clutch if I was wary of the quick shifter.  They didn't seem to understand me when I tried to explain that I only ever use the clutch between 1[sup]st[/sup] and 2[sup]nd[/sup] going up the box.

Anyway, on the test ride I found the quick shifter a little crude, but I eventually found that if you just rolled off the throttle a tiny tad it was as smooth as silk – so really, I’m thinking what is the point.

So my question is, are the gearboxes on the BMW boxers as sweet as any Japanese bike, and are they happy going up the box at full tilt without using the clutch?

  Farting and spluttering and backfiring
Posted by: andy f - 08-01-20, 06:11 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

No, not me the bike  Big Grin

Afternoon all, after a bit of help diagnosing something please.

I have a 02 plate FZS 600, had it for a good few years and it has never...never let me down. We moved house middle of last year and now no longer have a garage, as I got made redundant at the same time i haven't been using the bike so have now decided to sell her.

Went to start her the other week and she fired up but farting and spluttering, thought it was just where she isn't garaged anymore and damp had got in.
Pulled all the plugs, cleaned and checked the gaps, and checked the leads, before tightening them all back in checked to see they were all sparking nicely on the engine casing. All looked good. Still farting and spluttering though, By holding the down pipes .....carefully, I decided it was just No 3 cylinder not firing ( as the down pipe wasn't getting hot . Took the plug out again swapped the plug for No 1 tested against the housing all good , Still farting and spluttering.

Now while the bike has been outside I had it on it's side stand so No 3 and 4 side of the engine would have been more open to the elements

So now I'm thinking fuel / carbs. Changed the fuel filter, got some aerosol Carb cleaner and emptied about half a tin into the air intake all good, running niceley. took the bike out for a blast down thee motorway, ,little be stuttery when opening up but after a few miles seemed ok, did about 5 miles on the motorway and came off at the next junction, got down to the roundabout and it stalled, a real pig to start again, popping and back firing, pulling away back onto the motorway was a mare on the way back home on side roads would easily stall as i pulled up at lights etc. got home and No 3 and No 4 down pipes were not hot. Again checked all the plugs and leads and am confident they are fine.

So a bit miffed now I left it until the next weekend, Started up ok, all downpipes warmed up nicely but then again N0 3 stopped heating up, out with the carb cleaner again, and again after after a while she's running nicely again, but the after a quick run spluttering again !!!

SO Sunday i put a load of carb cleaner in...loads, took out for a ride, all good, started her up Monday and out for a ride...all good, left it tuesday and started her up today and she is spluttering again , took her out and she's still not running right. Defo No 3 and 4 cylingers, 1 and 2 are fine which make sense as when it was on the side stand 3 and 4 are open to the elements.

So what's next ? I'm thinking it must be fuel ? I drained the float chamber of No 4 and although it looked ok as it drained it did look a bit cloudy when it was in the plastic tray i emptied it into but i'm thinking was it just the plastic tray I emptied it into. So do I drain the tank and lines, drain the float chambers and put fresh fuel in ?

Any advice much appreciated Smile I think I'm on the right lines :rolleyes

  Cam chain tensioner
Posted by: matt7chunk - 06-01-20, 11:29 PM - Forum: FZS600 - No Replies

Hey guys ,

So, took the carbs off the Fazer yesterday for pre spring clean and while I had access I thought I would pull the cam chain tensioner to see if there's any steps left (rattle on idle when cold)

There was about 4 clicks left which I thought was strange as there's a rattle on idle , should that slack if been taken up by now?

What do you think ? Sticky tensioner ?

Cheers

The 2020 FOC-U Bike Picture Challenge
Posted by: fazersharp - 05-01-20, 01:00 PM - Forum: General - Replies (21)

The 2019 FOC-U Bike Picture Challenge  A reiteration of the rules.
1. All challenges must be of YOUR bike and a landmark, or something obscure or creative, something most people can ride to in their area.

2. Picture has to be taken after challenge is made.

3. Challenge is good for a week; if it is not met after that time, the previous picture poster picks a new challenge.

4. Nothing illegal to be challenged.

5. Keep comments to a minimum; if you comment, post the current challenge in bold type after your comment.

6. No repeat challenges.

7. No other bikes can be used, eg, your bike next to a Ducati. Some exceptions will be allowed, eg, your bike next to a bike cop.

8. Only 1 person can win each challenge; any other entrants will not be counted, due to throwing the whole game off track and adding challenges that don't stand.

9. If any dispute about a challenge occurs, 3 oks from others settles the challenge.

Remember, this thread is supposed to get people to want to go ride straight away and beat others to the challenge - be creative, but be sensible about it.

Have fun Foccers!
