  Brake fade
Posted by: ghostbiker - 23-09-12, 08:48 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

Had a slight problem on a track day this week. (well had a couple actualy but will stick to this one Smile )
on the 2nd session of the day i had brake fade heading in to hawthorns and the next 2-3 corners.
lever back to bar and 0 front brake. by the 4th corner brakes were back to full strength and apart from another smaller amount of fade in the 3rd session of the day (just for 1 corner i lost bite but still had some brakes) the brakes were fine the rest of the day.

New pads 2 months ago (1500ish miles i think) and new fluids last year
i cant remember what pads i put in though as it was done with the MOT and i told them to put some pads in. did not tell them what type. i want to say they were carbon lorraine as that was is on the display rack behind counter but im not 100% sure

never had it on road and to be honest i think i only had it on track because i was not hitting the brakes hard enough. this ment i was on the brakes for longer (but softer) so they got hotter. in the 1st session i hardly used the brakes and the last 2 sessions i was harder on the brakes and had no fade.

dont know if this makes sense though.
So whats the best way to counter it? or am i correct and it was my poor use of the brakes that were the problem?

word of warning on preasure check valve caps
Posted by: ghostbiker - 23-09-12, 08:18 AM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Just thought i would post a word of warning to anyone useing the preasure valve caps that turn green /red if the psi drops
i have used the for a couple of years without an issue but i was on a track day this week and as i was going in to westfield bend at brands the valve stem on my tyre sheared off and dumped all my air.
affter a trip to the gravel trap ( scrubbed most of the speed off before i went in and stayed upright through luck not skill) and a new pair of pants it was clear the valve stem had cracked from the added weight of the valve cap.
I was lucky they had a tyre place in the pits who fitted a new stem and i was back out on track next session but he made it clear he also thought the cap was the cause.

as i say i have used them for a couple of years and not had a problem but i will not use them again thats for sure.

  Hi

Hi everyone

Thought I'd better introduce myself.

My name's Richard, I recently decided that I was fed up with 4 wheels, so finally did my full bike test.  I've been meaning to do it since I was 17, so 17 years later at the ripe old age of 34 and, with my wife's disapproval, I did it!

Decided to buy a FZS600 (2000)...and I love it!!  It's got a fair few extras, which was a bonus, low mileage...and only had to go next door to buy it!!  lol

Anyway, thought I'd join up here now that I am a Fazer owner  Big Grin

Anyone got photos of an S2 swingarm?
Posted by: AdieR - 22-09-12, 06:55 PM - Forum: FZ6 / FZ6 Fazer - Replies (4)

My bike just got decked by a car at work (6 months after being decked by a van; I'm not having much success with this bike...), RHS of swingarm has a bend which isn't in the LHS and there appears to be confusion as to whether that bend is meant to be there (I'm bloody sure it wasn't bent before).

Cheers.

Bike won't start - my electrics have left me
Posted by: GILBERT - 22-09-12, 05:09 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (14)

Hi all, went out of the bike today with no problem, came back turned bike off and decided to go back out, so ignition on press start & CLICK & the all the lights went out. Turned the ignition on & off several times & kill switch but still no electrics at all.

Put the bike in the garage & tried once more & the ignition switch worked with the instrument & neutral light came on, pressed the start button & click & no more electrics & haven't had them since.

Checked the 30 A switches on the start relay & they both look intact. Can some one give me some guidance on what I should be checking next?

The one thing that I haven't mentioned was that I fitted a Acumen gear indicator this morning with the correct plug in loom, but this was working o.k. when I was out.

Cheers.

New biker... Need new front tyre only. Sportmax on rear.
Posted by: Lambonumber5 - 22-09-12, 04:33 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

Having just got my license last week got myself a 2003 FZS600.... It's a low mileage bike (8k), but I reckon it's still got the original front tyre on it... and whilst it may have another 1K -2K left in it , being almost 10 years old I want to change it.

The rear is fairly new but a Sportmax.... I guess reading the forums there are better tyres out there, so want to start by swapping the front... I presume I can mix and match to a small extent, so ask for advice on what I could switch to whilst keeping the rear for now.

Looking for a reasonable hard wearer as most riding will be commuting along the A27.

Appreciate your help, and the odd comedy answer!!

Cheers,
Gary

Foccin' site down after server swap over
Posted by: Aegis Bearing Mel - 22-09-12, 03:08 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

We can only apologise Foccers, our hosts have swapped over the server that we live in, but it seems to have taken longer than promised and with a shed load more disruption than anticipated.
Sad

The migration is now complete, all we need to do is wait for all the changes to come into effect and we should be back, better than ever.

By my reckoning it went down around 16:00 Friday and has been back up intermittently for about the last two hours today.

Cheers for your patience folks, I did stick a wee post up on the Facebook group to try and keep you as informed as I could, but I appreciate not everyone uses that.
