Now, I know this has been answered in differing ways a million times already - but after using the search and getting 150 different opinions I'm totally confused!
Firstly, my problem:-
I have a 2001 Fazer Thou. I am an averagely weighted rider, and I ride fairly sensibly, though I do sometimes "press on". I've never really found my suspension to be a problem on the Fazer other than it feeling a little unsettled under braking on crappy roads. That said, I did splash out on an R6 rear shock from DevilsYam last year, and I've always had the forks dropped through 20mm or so - which did improve my riding experience nicely - even if I didn't know it was a problem before!
My issue is she eats right-hand fork seals. I seem to be replacing them every two years or so and I've just got back from a failed MOT as it popped another on the way to the test centre. Left hand side has been done once before, but it didn't leak before or after (I just had it done as the other side was already out). I'm wondering if its either a problem with the fork stanchion, or maybe a problem that I don't ride her enough to keep things lubed?
Either way, I'm now looking at trying to find a garage to stick some new seals in again, costing another £80+.
However, before I do, I wondered if there were any direct replacements that would be an "upgrade" as well? I believe the R6 5EB front forks might bolt straight in(?), and the 5SL ones go in with a bit of work, and I've seen these go for £120 odd you see... Not sure about early R1 offerings, but I don't want to go USD or go spending £300-500 on a Ktech rebuild or entire R1 front end... but if I can get either some R1 or R6 forks that fit nicely as is for £150, without (much) modification or changing yokes and brakes and stuff then it might make sense to do now, rather than sorting the seals?
Thoughts please! Alternatively, if anyone local to Camberley wants to come and pop some new seals in for some beer money - that might be a third option!
Recently I replaced my cam chain, after putting it all back together I tried to balance the carbs, I had borrowed a carbtune, all seemed to be going ok until I tweeked a screw the wrong way, the balance got worse, but the tick over went UP !! :eek . This made me suspicious of the gauges swapping pipes 1 & 2 suddenly showed quite a diffence, so I ended up trying to balance this pair by looking for the same difference when swapping and unswapping the pipes. Spent ages trying to set up a half way house. Then repeated this for 3 & 4, then between 2 & 3, I am sort of happy where I ended up
Since then I have got some T pieces and commoned them together, with the below result, here you can see 3cm of mercury difference between channels, the spec in Haynes is all to read within 1cm Hg.
So be warned, check your tool before using it :lol
Hi Guys...
I was on a rideout with the London foccers the other week at the Ace Cafe. It was pointed out to me half way through the ride that I was leaking water/coolant from the breather pipe (near my right foot peg)! I lost about 300ml. :\
The general conclusion from the group was there was probably an air pocket in the system.
I squeezed and poked the coolant pipes as suggested the other day. I don't know, if this was the problem, if this has worked as the water leak happened after 100mile +/- run; however we were in traffic when it happened. I've had my 02 gen1 thou about 8yrs now, 50k miles in with a FSH and this has never happend before? :'(
I plan to do the BRUM on Sunday, so any theories and/or advice would be much appreciated...
Selling my hugger at the moment and want to make sure i'm advertising it correctly, it does not fit my 1998 600 as my swing arm/chainguard attachments are too far apart.
Has anyone looked at replacement pegs? I'm only riding awhile but I'm starting to feel the pegs abit goofy when I'm going through consecutive tight turns, I'm not saying I'm racing the thing but doing the speed limit and I do find I shift myself on the seat( yes I have watched hundreds of vids on how to corner and hang off properly and even MCN's version..... )And I'm not knee down or anything mad,
Maybe it's just me but I just find alot of movement in them( and yes I have tightened the bolt) its the vertical movements and the rubber. Don't get me wrong bumpy roads and long spins there great!
Hi, I'm Lasse, moved here from Copenhagen Denmark. Have a 2005 FZS, dark blue and my dream bike.
I haven't got my bike here, as it needs to be exported from the home country. Anyone have any experience importing bikes from drive-on-the-right countries? ANy advice is greatly appreciated.
