Before going out check android GPS toggle is turned on.
My 1:30 ride out yesterday around Rutland water, Melton and back was completely blank in 'my track's' as I'd forgotten to turn the GPS toggle on. It just displayed an hour and a half of stationary. Class.
:oops
Wot a dufus.

Grinding noise/feeling around 6000rpm

Hi guys,
I have some strange behaviour that I'm not sure is normal.
When I pull through the revs and gears, it feels like the engine (I assume) starts grinding at around 6000rpm give or take. I can feel it through the handlebars and it tends to go after about 7000rpm or when I push it way up into the power band its fine too. This occurs worst when im going about 60 mph and keeping the revs in the trouble zone.
I also found that if I potter along at just over 5000rpm it feels really smooth, no vibration or grinding and almost no negative engine sensation at all.
I have a new chain and sprockets (600 miles ago) and a new oil filter and oil change then too (when I bought the bike). In an attempt to improve it, I tightened my chain very slightly today and lubed it and realigned my back wheel because I notcied that the adjustments on the chain tensioner didnt completely match and managed to get them to be almost the same now.
I took the bike out 2 hours after making the adjustments to allow the lube to dry a bit and I feel like it has improved and the rpm range of grinding is narrower now, but still centered on 6k. I will check the engine oil level in the morning just to make sure too.
I have tried to search for this but havent seen anything that exactly matches what I feel. As an engineer, it makes me cringe because i'm running all kinds of imagination adventures where I visualise too big metal plates grinding swarf into my gearbox haha
Is this well known to you? Any tips?
Many thanks!
James

New clutch dragging when hot

Hi,
just fitted a new clutch plates and the thrust crinkly spring to my 2002 600 Fazer. They were EBC plates and soaked in oil for a few hours before fitting as per the instructions on the box. The clutch pressure plate bolts were torqued properly. All went in OK the clutch seemed to release OK before the cover was replaced. Filled with 10w/40 oil and the clutch adjusted via the locknut/screw on the nearside.
Took it for a brief run around the local roads and all was well - better than it was before.
However on the way to work this evening, after about 20 minutes, the clutch started to drag and it became impossible to get neutral. By the time I got to work (after about 40 mins) it was so bad the engine was stalling when I stopped at lights. There was no change in the feel at the lever, and when riding the bike changed up and down OK - just can't get neutral. There was no rattling or unusual noises.
I've just gone down to the bike after it's cooled down for a couple of hours - and it's back to normal. No dragging, can get neutral no problems.
Any ideas? It's stumped me and I'm guessing when I take the cover off nothing's going to be obvious.
cheers.

Weekly Insurance

So, I've just bought this second bike which I'm probably going to rob the best bits off and then sell on.
I'll either have to insure it, or declare it SORN and lose 5 months road tax (and sell it as SORN which doesn't look as attractive as taxed).
Anybody ever taken out something like a weekly policy for a bike they own (as opposed to borrowed)?
I only pay £80/yr TPFT on my 600, but that's with a stack of no claims discount.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Two stud have snapped, there is plenty of stud left to get a stud remover on but are too short to use. Does anybody in the Manchester area have one I could borrow for the day and I would repay with beer tokens. Preferred one is 1/4 inch impact stud extractor (2mm - 8mm).
