Snapped exhaust stud help. - xlewisbdx - 06-05-13

Two stud have snapped, there is plenty of stud left to get a stud remover on but are too short to use. Does anybody in the Manchester area have one I could borrow for the day and I would repay with beer tokens. Preferred one is 1/4 inch impact stud extractor (2mm - 8mm).

That sucks...

Did you put any penetrating fluid on them before hand? Can't have been for very long as you only posted the other day about it. We did suggest a week of appkying penetrating fluid before trying to remove them. Hope you can get it sorted without having to remove the engine/head.

Didn't have time to wait my MOT is right around the corner. They have been soaking in WD40 for 2 days.

Hmm, don't understand your logic... You're more likely to miss the MOT now than if you'd let them soak in a proper penetrating fluid for longer.

Rush it by not soaking the bolts for more than a day or two and snap a stud or two and then it'll take longer to sort it as you have broken studs and may need to remove engine/head to fix the new problem or spend a few days using a penetrating fluid (which WD40 isn't as mentioned in your other thread, although is better than nothing) and probably not snap any studs so a lot less hassle...

Like I said, I hope you get it sorted with a stud exctractor without having to remove engine/head to sort it.

All the best,

Chris

The studs would have snapped regardless. There is 2 that snapped all the others where find. The two that snapped where fatigued anyway.

Fair enough, hope the stud exctractor works thenĀ  8)

Total nightmare man, funny though that the weakest part of the fzs600 is the crap down pipes, then japan even has the balls to compound the problem by making replacing said dodgy merchandise a living hell :evil :evil :evil :evil

Good luck getting them out

Im defo opting for the stick the bike into my local garage & let them worry about it option when i change mine.
