Had a bit of a spruce up
Posted by: darrsi - 17-06-13, 01:39 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (21)

Had a very kind mate of mine (cheers Steve Wink ) give my engine a bit of a makeover yesterday as it was starting to look a bit ropey due to the constant shite weather we have, and also the fact that i ride all year round.
I'm very happy indeed with the results  Big Grin
I used to use an engine brightener spray on it before due to the black colour looking a bit tired but even after using Gunk, a jetwash, thinners and even sanding down the metal it seemed to still react with the spray, but we got there eventually.

  Mixture screw leaking
Posted by: Kentish - 17-06-13, 06:24 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (8)

Some of you may remember my last thread about a petrol smell. Well today I found that it was still there so I decided to put my finger under each mixture screw hole. I found that cylinder 2 was weepin petrol. This was also the cylinder that was low on vacuum when I balanced my carbs. The thread seems fine as the screw turns in and out easy. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it just be an o-ring? I can't understand why it would leek though.

hex bolt at bottom of fork damper rod
Posted by: mobile mouse - 16-06-13, 11:34 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the M? size of the allen bolt at the bottom of the damper rod, please.

What length hex bolt do I need.
Bought all the bits to change fork oil and seals trying to get all the tools ready for the job.

The instructions on the old Yuku site didn't list any sizes of allens at all.

Thanks in advance Smile

which is best? the review on the below states it makes no difference to air flow. I don't want to spend hundreds on a screen but I also want something that makes a difference.

Farewell "Big Red" Welcome "Rhondda Red"!
Posted by: Dave48 - 16-06-13, 07:24 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Had recently decided to downsize and bought an FZS 600 in April  as a possible replacement for my 52 plate 5LV1 Gen 1 thou. The 600 is a one previous owner bike but with 34000 miles up-mostly I would guess commuting in the southeast. Started to service bike from scratch as very little previous history-mainly a bunch of old MOTs indicating average annual mileage. Replaced brake lines with Goodridge ,  had gear pedal assembly rebushed & have had centre stand repaired.New front BTO23 tyre fitted & all the service jobs done, fluids & oil filter changed.
Studying sale/asking prices for early Gen 1s was dismayed to see how they have fallen in value/price fetched both here on forum & also ebay etc.
Last week I spoke to a Welsh 03 600 owner with an immaculate bike looking for a good Gen 1 thou. We exchanged pics/details & I rode down to meet him on Wednesday. We both liked what we saw, shook hands & swapped bikes ( so we both have bikes that any dealer would retail for a minimum of £2500).
Had a great ride home(having phoned insurance co first to cover new bike) apart from torrential rain between Hereford & Worcester.Having ridden the new (RED)600 its as good as it looks-the previous owner is an engineer and a bit OCD about bikes-like me!.
So I avoided all the hassle of advertising, daft offers, timewasters etc...........However I will be selling the Blue 03 600-which is a nice bike but the Red one is even better---oh Happy Grandad! :lol
