Hi chaps .i have a 99 fazer ,great bike my only bugbear is the mirrors i cant see past my elbows --do the later fzs 1000 ones fit/work any suggestions welcome .i like to see whats behind cos im getting old now thanks in advance--Stu

All, is there a section or thread somewhere that lists exactly (models and year bikes) what other rear shocks fit the thou?


And also, what, if any, mods need to be made to the shocks to get them to fit.


I’m of average spannering ability, but my thou’s suspension needs updating/ upgrading.


Actually, while I’m asking, does anyone recommend somewhere to get my front forks overhauled and sorted, new springs/ oil etc that won’t break the bank.


I need front and rear done for the cheapest price. My bike is probably only worth £1k so don’t want to spend nearly that to get it sorted, but I also want to ride it, as it is, it’s not pleasant as I can very easily find the limits of the suspension.

Hi, i want to change my front and rear brake fluid , on the front ,as the bike has a T piece feeding the two front discs is there an order that you need to flush one side first ,before the other
? if so which side, orientated as if you were sat on the bike.

At the end of the day it's twelve o'clock.

Sooooo I get a painter to repaint my rd 350 lc2 front headlight fairing, telling him “mind these are like hens teeth, this is a good one and worth probably the thick end of 600 quid” no problem he says.
You know what’s coming........he’s totally wrecked it. Put it in an oven and forgot about it  :'( . These cowls are really hard to get , there’s little to no chance of getting another, he says he’s been looking for one but can’t find a replacement...no shit ! Says all he can do is apologise. I haven’t been to see him yet but I reckon he owes me a wedge of money now,  what do you think ?

Do we have one who lives in Camden? if so can you you need to be aware of what Camden Council are currently trying to push through that will directly effect you and any motorcycle businesses in the area. Mag would appreciate as many signatures as possible on the following open letter (see below) and it would extremely helpful if any of those are from Camden residents -

We are extremely concerned about the effects that these changes will have on motorcyclists who live and work in Camden.  Additionally we believe that the proposals will be detrimental to the economy and life of Camden. We believe these changes are not justified by evidence claimed, and will result in significant damage to the borough and motorcyclists.

We are asking that you meet with interested parties in order to find to an equitable solution for motorcyclists and Camden.
Our main concerns are as follows:

- Damage to the economy of Camden and the livelihoods of those who work in Camden:
The proposed daily and hourly charges for parking will damage the ability of riders to work or volunteer in Camden. This includes delivery riders and couriers, but also volunteer riders for groups such as the Blood Bikers or the Bike Shed Community Response, who are doing vital work during the pandemic. In addition, the proposed limit on daily passes to two years will make it impossible for those who commute into Camden by motorcycle to continue to do so after 2023. It’s a mistake to assume that in all cases walking or cycling and public transport offer a viable alternative. We believe that the net result will be people forced to give up their jobs, or work elsewhere. This will impact not only these individuals but the economy of Camden. 

- Increased crime:
Reducing access to solo motorcycle bays will mean less secure parking. The police have identified secure parking as a key way to reduce moped enabled crime. This therefore has the potential to increase motorcycle theft and undo the good work Camden has done in providing secure facilities. This is of serious concern, not just to motorcyclists in Camden, but to all those who live in, work in, or visit Camden. Stolen motorcycles are commonly used in ‘moped enabled crime’ which impacts every Camden resident and visitor.

- Lack of sufficient consultation:
The short consultation period in a period of unprecedented disruption is disappointing. Fewer people were attending workplaces in Camden during the consultation period than normal due to the pandemic.  Many of those potentially affected by these proposals will not have been aware of the consultation. Multiple offers to discuss the proposals have been made to the council by interested parties, all of which have been refused. We are extremely concerned that the changes will go ahead without reasonable engagement with those who it will affect the most. 

- The proposals are not proportionate:
The evidence presented in the consultation doesn’t support the changes. Charging motorcycles the same amount as cars is disproportionate.  It doesn’t take into account the amount of space motorcycles takes up, nor the lower levels of pollution they produce.

Motorcycling is a transport choice taken by a broad spectrum of individuals, including nurses, doctors, business owners, volunteers, couriers and delivery riders. Those who use motorcycles, due to the nature or length of their journey, often cannot reasonably use other means of transport. For many the economy of motorcycles is the only low cost option for their travel needs.

On a per km basis motorcycles produce significantly lower emissions of CO2 and key pollutants such as NOx, PM10 and PM2.5.  Motorcycles also do not contribute to congestion. Not all trips can be replaced by walking cycling and public transport.  For those that can't, motorcycles present the best alternative to cars for those concerned about air quality. Instead of seeking to unfairly punish motorcyclists, Camden should follow the example of other councils such as Cambridgeshire in recognizing the role of motorcycles as a means to meet their air quality and climate change aims.

We, the undersigned, would ask that you reconsider these proposals.  We believe that they will have a devastating effect on motorcyclists, and those who rely on the value motorcyclists bring to Camden.

Couple of days ago I went to start the bike in pitch darkness very early morning and the starter did nothing.
It just flashed up the yellow dash light, which I'm guessing is an engine light, and the red oil light.
I hadn't ridden it for a couple of days so pumped the clutch lever in case the clutch plates were sticking and a couple of goes later it started and all was good again, so i just let it go.


As I had today off I gave the battery a charger boost for 5hrs, and then I just changed the oil and filter as well.


Before changing the oil I let the bike tick over for 5mins to warm the oil up a bit before draining it.


When I was all done, I turned the key, and it was dead again, with just those two lights showing.


After about 4 or 5 attempts, and some serious staring, it then sprung to life again?


I let it run for a bit then switched off and on a few times and it was totally fine.
As it was an ignition issue I also gave the ignition barrel a good spray with some Contact Cleaner.


Question is, if this happens again and I can't get it going, where should I start looking for faults?


I had issues years ago with ropey starting, and the Contact Cleaner spray worked miracles on the ignition barrel, so I'm hoping it won't happen again, but if it does any ideas why as this specific problem is not something I have encountered before?

When i use the side stand, it is standing precariously upright so i tend to lean it against a wall in gear at home or when i pop in the local shops.


My only thought is perhaps it has been lowered to cause this. It does have a centre stand but I'd prefer to keep that for maintenance etc only.


IS there a way i can tell if it has been lowered? I daren't bend the side stand to make it stand at a better angle as that's madness.

Hello this is an introductory query really. I do have plenty of other questions but i shall start here.


I've tried searching the colour options in which the 1999 Fazer 600 were originally available in (Excuse the wording)


They do not mention White & just wondered if it was a standard colour or if it was a dealer option of sorts, as personally i have never seen a gen 1 white on the road (could just be bad luck or the pepperpot of a county i live in)


IF anyone knows what colours were available as standard it would be appreciated as they seem to list golf black burgundy and silver.
