  Dyno'd today
Posted by: Fraser - 26-02-14, 06:17 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (2)

Took the old girl for a bit of diagnostics today, has been suffering a with a slight flatspot/reluctance since fitting K&N air filer and noisy can. Matey on dyno confirmed that it is a bit rich on mid range, time to drop the needles a notch , that should sort it .        87 bhp , not bad for a 16 year old  33k Fazor

  Lake District
Posted by: adeejaysdelight - 26-02-14, 12:42 PM - Forum: General - Replies (32)

I am off on my annual solo bike tour next week. For a change I am heading to the Lake District. I usually head up to the highlands, but my bike could ride around there on its own, such is its experience of those roads  :rolleyes .  So I thought I would head "down souf" for a wee change.

I am looking for recommended roads and must do's from local experts. I am staying at Grange over Sands. I plan to batter down the motorway to somewhere like Penrith, then ride the rest through the countryside. Once I arrive at my accommodation I will dump my stuff and head out to play until it gets dark. I then have another 2 days to explore the area.

Any advice on roads, views, eateries and drinking holes most welcome  Big Grin .

Thanks

Oxford Optimiser 900 for 98 model?
Posted by: cfoley - 26-02-14, 11:16 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (2)

Quick question. Is the Oxford Optimiser 900 a suitable trickle charger for the '98 model Fazer? Girlfriend is ordering one for her bike at lunchtime and I might get her to order one for my Fazer at the same time.

  Brakes failing
Posted by: elbrownos - 25-02-14, 11:27 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (15)

My rear brake is conking out on me.
In the last couple of months it's gotten very weak and spongy.
As I ride in winter, I figured one of the pistons has siezed as usual.
So I pulled it off and cleaned the pistons (they didn't seem to be siezed after all) and put it back on.
No difference, actually if anything a little worse.
So I figure it must be the hose getting weak and bulging (it's original). Put a new HEL braided hose on last week, bled the system.
No difference, actually if anything a little worse.
So that leaves two options. Either I really do have air in the system, or the master cylinder is knackered.
What are the chances of the master cylinder being worn out? It's a 2002 model with 20k miles.
I figure I can test it by removing the hose from the output of the master cylinder and plugging the port. If it's still spongy then it's the master cylinder, if it's firm then it's air. Will try this on the weekend.
Is it a better option to buy a used master cylinder off ebay or overhaul my own? Not that I can even find an overhaul kit. Any tips?
Cheers
Elbrownos

  Engine Paint
Posted by: MEM62 - 25-02-14, 10:57 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Its finally happened, the engine paint on my '05 Fazer 1000 has just started to lift.  I guess I'll be doing some research to sort out suitable touch-up paint.  The areas affected are very small - in fact too small to spray - so I'll need paint that can be applied by brush.
