Setting up suspension and tyre pressures.
Posted by: davidkent - 01-03-14, 08:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Hi all.

Been out fixing the bike finally today, and after realising I also have a hole in the water pump and a part id ordered was wrong, I'm working on the bike next week again also once these are ordered / replaced.

While i'm out there, before I go for an MOT and get into Spring / Summer weather, I'd like to adjust everything up to suit.

Its a 2003 Foxeye FZS600.
I'm about 5' 10" and very light, at around 8 to 8 and a half stone.

Basically, I'm looking for an idiots guide on where to set my rear shock and the front preload - Or a guide or something?

I've ran a search but can't find much specific to my size.

I was also contemplating a jack up, i've read this'll also help with handling, as as the dog bones are around £20 for a 25mm jack up, it could be worth it.

Any advice?
Thanks
David

  Aint that bad?
Posted by: stevie-g1968 - 01-03-14, 07:59 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - No Replies

just picked up my 600 fox eye.
after a 40 mile shake down ride home, all seems good, no real faults..it handles well goes pretty good for a 600.

so ive had a half arsed go with the polish when I got home, just to see how it would clean up.

it just needs a good clean Smile

I have a list of jobs to do
the fairing is craked , so I will repair and paint that.
the tail  panels are a bit scratched so I will maybe look for some good used or paint them
the polished bits, foot rests etc need a good polish up again.
the gear linkage is very sloppy, I think the bush in the foot rest part is worn/ non existent...can the bush be replace or is it the whole thing?

other than that, im just looking forward to using it a lot.. Big Grin

  Road Tax Petition reply
Posted by: nsr500v4 - 01-03-14, 07:20 PM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

The beloved government has posted a reply as to why bike tax is not in line with car tax. See what you think of the reasons!

[/t]Dear Alan,
The e-petition 'Bring Motorcycle road tax inline with that of cars' signed by you recently reached 15,905 signatures and a response has been made to it.
As this e-petition has received more than 10 000 signatures, the relevant Government department have provided the following response: The decisions of successive Governments have resulted in VED being structured according to vehicle type and registration date with VED contributing to general taxation revenues. Cars registered before March 2001 are taxed according to engine size, and those registered from March 2001 onwards taxed according to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Unlike for cars, the European Union has not yet established a design type approval test for motorbikes that requires CO2 data to be produced for each model variant. The current scheme for motorbike manufacturers is voluntary and so does not offer a complete dataset for all motorbikes in production. The Government is therefore not in a position to treat motorbikes on a CO2 emissions basis for VED. The current engine capacity based rates offer the most practical and easy-to-understand way to reflect the respective emissions levels of motorbikes. The majority of motorcycle owners, in fact, pay rates lower than the top VED rate of £78. A third of motorcyclists pay the lowest VED rate applicable to motorcycles, i.e. of £17. The Government believes that healthy public finances are essential for future growth and jobs. The UK is still faced with the serious and unavoidable economic challenge of tackling the debts inherited from the previous Government. Despite this challenge, under this Government, VED rate increases for cars, vans and mototcycles are limited to inflation only, meaning that a motorist’s VED liability remains unchanged in real terms since 2010. This e-petition remains open to signatures and will be considered for debate by the Backbench Business Committee should it pass the 100 000 signature threshold.

  Modern Technology
Posted by: mick - 01-03-14, 07:08 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

Fancied a ride out today. After 6 weeks  standing in an integral garage my 3 year old XJR1300 was having none of it. My 15 year old Fazer, still on original battery, started first touch of the button having stood for the same time. Neither bike has had a charger attached during standing. Spent 3 hours riding the Fazer whilst the pampered modern beast was treated to 3 hours charging just to get it going. Is modern stuff better? Classic Motorcycle Mechanics anyone?

Posted by: Torque - 01-03-14, 07:02 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

Hi,
My FZS600 tank started to leak, I had to block the drain pipe, which it's not the ideal (plenty of water inside)

I would like to buy a tank for FZS600.

Let me know here or PM.

Thanks.

EDIT:
@Thanks for mate ChristoT below, for update that FZ6 won't fit to my FZS600

Love Handles :)) Who's got um or used um
Posted by: gtfire - 01-03-14, 05:03 PM - Forum: General - Replies (12)

Just purchased a set made by Oxford (£26.00). I didn't dare buy non branded  :eek  if they failed.

Ive never used anything like these before but seem a great idea. My good lady is not sure if she can trust them but they come with a velcro inner strap and a trident connector outer band.

Ill try um out when it dries up but wanted some users thoughts?

A few weeks ago, I signed a petition for bringing road tax for motorcycles in line with car road tax based on CO2 emmissions. The petition has received a response from government, which basically says: "You're cash cows, STFU and pay up". Bastards.  >: :2guns :2guns

  Rear linkage bolts -loose fit?
Posted by: Simon.Pieman - 01-03-14, 02:21 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

It's nearly mot time and I've fitted some nice new linkage bearings because the play in the old bearings was getting a bit much. But, when I've gone to tighten it all up there is still some play in the bearings. I know from a search on this site that this is not uncommon but I took the linkage off again and noticed that there is an alarming amount of radial tolerance between the bolts and bearing sleeve. Has anyone else noticed this and has anyone sourced different bolts which might fit rather better? You'd expect the bolts to be a tight sliding fit but these are not, I checked they are the same as a mate's Fazer and they are indeed the same and his are just as wobbly in the sleeve.  Can't be right.
