Carrying weight with pillion etc |

Hi everyone.
I had a search around and I can find any info on the total load weight of the Fazer 1000.
I have a 2003 with a standard shock (I know....upgrade to the R6 shock - this is my next mod) and 50mm raiser dog bones to help the steering etc. My static sag is about 35mm when I sit on the bike my myself which I think is about right but I would turn up the preload for 2 up to help.
My question is has anyone any experience of 2 up with luggage (panniers) with rider and pillion being a nice comfy weight. I'm 6 foot and about 15.5 stone. The wife is "about" 13 stone but 6.2 ish (not that her height make any difference but she would say she has a good excuse) :rolleyes . That give us a combined weight of 28.5 stone or 177KG....give or take a good breakfast. Add to that motorbike kit and a bit or weekend luggage and we would be pushing 190/200KG...I pack light!
Is this too much for the old girl?....the bike not the wife!
I'd be very interested to here anyone's experience of weekend touring with pillions and weight issues or non issues. Thanks for your time!

Winter & pandemic non usage: |

most of us use bikes less during the winter and topically during the several lockdowns these past 12 months. lets start by saying i dont need my bikes (3) for anything other than pleasure , however even during the long winter , I pick a dry day and will give them a 30min ride to maintain usage year round during dec to march maybe once every 4 weeks until spring and from April - November use them all regularly anyway.
however there might be times , like now where you just cannot use them , unless it genuinely is your only form of transport, its feasible as we have seen before now than a lockdown can be 3 months or even more.
so how to maintain them for a period of lay off , where as in this instance , its pretty much illegal, apart from if it was your only form of transport.
do you just lay them up accept the situation and wait it out, or do you start them up every now and then ? I heard that running them up for short periods like 5-10 mins can cause condensation in the header pipes etc. is it ok to run them stationary for longer amounts of time until the cooling fan comes on , apart from the I.C.E nothing else moves and the oil pump and charging system are on a limited variance of rpm, and ideally you'd want the oil temp to get fully up to temp. then there's the brake calipers that need movement etc , how to achieve maintenance during a dormant period of time where the bike can not be ridden as designed to be used ?
a lot of bikes in showrooms get unridden until sold for many months sometimes a year , i think newish bikes cope better with that situation but older bikes i believe need to be ridden at least once a months to keep everything in shape.
what do you guys do , particularly in this lockdown when we cannot ride .

Damaged following hit and run |

Hi, apologies if this has been answered in a previous thread - forums are new to me!
I have an 03 fazer (in silver) and someone has done me the absolute pleasure of knocking it over outside my house and driving off (no witnesses unfortunately).
They've left me with a dent in my tank, the front and rear fairing damaged (cracked) and an indicator is mullered too!
What are peoples thought on:
replacing the tank / getting it repaired or resprayed and which is cheaper - seem tanks on ebay for £60.
Could it be pulled? are they single skinned tanks?
Buying replacement fairing and getting that sprayed OR doing a naked conversion (how hard is it to convert to naked? I like the aesthetic of fairing but there's less to damage if it's naked should it happen again - i do live on a busy road in Bristol.)
Any advice on what to do to stop this happening again i'd be grateful for too!
Thanks in advance
G.

Brake Calipers cleaing: Removing caked on Brake dust and grime? |

So doing the obligatory clean on the spare set of calipers for my bandit, while typical brake cleaner is fine for cleaning the discs, pistons and calipers internals - its hopeless at cleaning all the caked on brake dust/road grime on the caliper body. I have always thought, there must be a spray/brush liquid solution that will dissolve the caked on brake dust and road grime, so we don't need to be getting out the wire brush and pick for the seal grooves.
After a bit of research for the outside at least, what we need is a solution/fluid that will react with the iron in the brake dust. Examples I have seen on youtube are for cleaning the brake dust of wheels, but I think it should do the same job on calipers aswell. The idea is you spray it on and leave it to soak for a few minutes, after which time it changes color (usual pink or purple). Then you simply rinse it off with water and for more stubborn instances, agitating with an toothbrush rinse and repeat if as required.
Id like to hear back from any of your guys that have found a product that works well for you? What I have been looking for so far is car wheel cleaner and iron remove like - - WonderWheels Colour change (acid free) wheel cleaner - amazon

clutch lever span adjusters? |

hi i ve done a quick search to see if this topic has been covered before , couldn't see a match so forgive me if its been covered before ?
i have a cable operated clutch with the original levers, i struggle with winter gloves to grab the clutch lever in particular so some span adjusters would be useful. however with cable operated clutch the lever length is likely to be important to gain the leverage to operate the clutch properly?
its almost universal that span adjusters are for hydraulic clutches and are invariably shorter than OEM .
has anyone used shorter span adjusters and found they are either a problem or perhaps not ?
can anyone offer advice to the best span adjuster levers to resolve my issue ? are there any full length adjustable levers you know of ?
just to confirm its a 2001 fzs600.
TIA

Spark Plug Caps |

Good Morning All,
Had a search for this but wasnt able to find an answer for the 1000 so I thought I'd ask.
I recently changed the spark plugs on my fzs1000 owing to poor fuelling and bogging down at low rpm. When I removed the spark plug cap from the plug I noticed that a bodged repair had been effected with electrical tape. This was on the cylinder which was running the coolest out of the four (Mrs was not happy using her meat temperature gauge as a thermometer!)
Anyways, ordered some NGK replacements Model SD05F. Upon arrival they are considerably shorter and are not the correct diameter at the thick end.
Does anyone know the correct model spark plug cap for the thou OEM or otherwise.?
Thanks!
