  Thinking of getting a Tenere 700 or a CB500x
Posted by: fireblake - 28-02-21, 05:57 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Any of you lovely peeps have experience with either of these bikes. I'm a stumpy short arse so would probably have the T7 lowered. If I bought the Honda I would get Rally Raid to chuck everything they make at it. I plan on doing some off roading like the TET so want it to be able to haul my fat arse anywhere I want to go plus all my camping gear and stuff to be away from home for a month or more. Your thoughts and suggestions are most welcome?

click the link and go to your model then bookmark
its the easiest way to find part numbers etc
and for the expensive stuff that is harder to get 2nd hand you can cross reference other bikes that use the same part and widen ebay searches
(not a huge problem for the fazer but has come in handy for my 82 gsx1100 and godsons ybr125)

temp & condensation , short runs v long runs
Posted by: butthead - 26-02-21, 05:50 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

so i have heard that short runs or static runs ( ticking over not riding )  are bad for the bike due to condensation issues as the bike doesnt get properly hot or hot enough.
wanting to learn more about this, at what point does the condensation occur ?  heating up or cooling down or both.
does going for a long run eradicate this condensation or minimize it ?
so i was thinking that if it occurs at a certain temp range at some point even after a very long run it will cool back down at some point to that problem temp range so wont that create condensation?  long run or short run either way?
or is it created ONLY on warm up not cooling back down, and gets eradicated by increased temperature that too short a run doesnt give you ?

how long a run is enough of a run , and do we worry about this on a daily basis on our short commutes to work and back in our cars ? how many short journeys are made daily in cars ?

anyone have any expertise on offer in this area .  just an interesting topic id like more information on

  Ignition Switch Lubrication
Posted by: darrsi - 25-02-21, 06:28 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Seen on here many times people asking what to use as a lube for ignition switches (where you put the key to start the bike, for the less informed) and i've finally found a winner.

Firstly, don't use graphite (sludge), WD40 (attracts dirt), degreasing spray (dries out), etc, or similar as they can seem like a temporary fix but do more harm than good over the longer term as i found out myself the hard way a few years ago.
With added (dirty) rain these can eventually turn to sludge and/or dry out on contacts in the switch causing starting/running issues or just make the turning of the key feel a bit stiff.

A few months ago i bought an electrical contact cleaner from Halfords to try as my ignition key was turning a bit stiff in the switch, and it sorted it for a while but i think after some prolonged rainfall it just dried out again.

So i tried some stuff we use at work and it has turned out to be perfect for the job.

It's still a contact cleaner so it will clean all the shite out of your switch, but it leaves a very fine lubrication as well and you can feel that everything inside moves much more freely when inserting the key.

I've deliberately waited a few months to see if it would dry out like the other one but it's still exactly the same so i can safely say it's got the thumbs up from me to use.  :thumbup

  Gen 1 With Belt Conversion
Posted by: ionescu_george_bz - 24-02-21, 10:27 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (9)

Hello people of the Forum!
I have bought myself this Sunday a Gen 1 with belt conversion. The previous owner was unable to tell me where the kit was bought from but from my research i think it might of been from these guys, or these guys. I really like the bike, it rides butter smooth.
I am interested to know if there are others around here with a kit like this, and what are their impressions so far.
