  Judder/hesitation help!
Posted by: drew70311 - 28-03-17, 07:58 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

Hi you lovely people!  Can anyone help me diagnose a problem.

I have a judder / hesitation when pulling away in first. It shows up now and again through other gears and rev ranges.

I've checked all fuel pipes they are in good order not kinked etc... The exup is working as it should.

Any other ideas???

Thanks!

  Tank sticker
Posted by: Dudeofrude - 28-03-17, 06:02 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Anyone know where I can get a decent clear tank sticker/protector?
In the past (after much trial and error with cheap crap ones that peel off) i learnt to use motografix ones as once they are on, they are there forever and they are damn good quality too. Problem is they don't make a clear one. I already have one of the bike but it's starting to yellow and look scruffy so needs to go. Any recommendations?

  Difficulty up-shifting
Posted by: Goose - 28-03-17, 05:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (13)

Hello All,

As per my introduction thread, I've recently bought a '98 FZS-600. It's only got 4400 miles on the clock so clearly hasn't been used a huge amount in the previous 19 years.  For the most part it all seems to work fine, but it's a bit of a pig when changing up through the gears.

Down shifting is fine, no issues there and I have no problem selecting neutral either but sometimes (not always, and it's possibly slightly worse once warm) it can be a real pig to change up. 1st to 2nd is fine, and 2nd to 3rd is OK, but 4th, 5th and 6th (seems to get worse the higher the gear) can be difficult to get into. It will go, but sometimes needs 2 or 3 attempts before it will shift.  Other times it will slot straight in without problem.

I've changed the oil and filter a couple of weeks back in the hope that it might have had crap oil in it, but this doesn't seem to have helped (it was a longshot!).  I have also adjusted the freeplay in the clutch, but again it doesn't seem to have made much difference.

I was originally hoping this might be an issue caused by a lack of use, but I've put a 150 miles on it in the last couple of weeks and it doesn't seem to have improved anything.

Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem?

Thanks!

James

Should I be able to start the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in?
Posted by: slinky2000 - 28-03-17, 11:52 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

I'm pretty sure I used to be able to do this but it's not working at the moment.

If I'm in first gear (side stand up) and stall the bike, If I pull in the clutch, should I be able to start the bike?

At the moment if I do, the lights on the dash dim but it doesn't start, I have to put it into neutral and then start.

This is a bit of a pain at light sometimes.

Thanks.

  Fuel pump clicking
Posted by: Graham53 - 27-03-17, 11:15 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

as I'm sure you are aware I'm having some fuel issues, sorry for yet another post
After fitting air filter and changing oil , I put the tank back on and switch on ignition, the fuel pump clicks away priming the carbs, so after a stab of the starter it splutters to life and dies, fuel pump clicks away again 5 or so seconds roughly and stops , it does this every time either I stop pressing the starter or switch on the ignition, there's fuel in tank and no pipes are kinked, from that I'm guessing it's not a fuel into pump problem
I'm assuming that if there's fuel to the pump then it's not detecting pressure to stop itself and in effects thinks the carb bowls need fuel, i can't think its the solenoid and I've checked all connections and cleaned them , it's got  a datatool red alarm but I don't think it would cause this ?? I can't go back to it until tomorrow but It's off for a carb refurb next week if that's the cause of the problems but that's 40 miles from me, should I just put it back together and get it transported or would it do harm to try and start it
