New clutch woes - help!
Posted by: Arfa - 23-04-17, 06:21 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (43)

Just swapped on some new EPC clutch plates and heavy duty springs; soaked plates for an hour, refitted all plates as original, judder spring on 2nd plate, pressure plate in the single position where it sits flush, torques all up as per Haynes book (8Nm spring bolts), put everything back together, fresh oil (Castrol Power1 bike oil, 10w40 semi), adjusted clutch cable at sprocket cover and lever, just a spot of free play at lever. But now I'm having a lot of trouble with the clutch action:

The clutch lever is really stiff, really hard to pull all the way in.
When I engage 1st, the bike starts to pull forward immediately before I've let any clutch out, I have to hold the front brake to keep it stationary.
When I pull the lever all the way back, I still can't get it into neutral again, I have to hit the kill switch.
I've been trying to adjust the cable cable/lever this way and that, but still can't improve matters.

Help! What have I done wrong?!

Posted by: Gaz66 - 23-04-17, 03:46 PM - Forum: Introduction - No Replies

Big hello to all current members.

Has the bike a wk, already started stripping to tidy a few areas up.
Surprising what you inherit from previous ownership.
Just had to plastic weld the fairing infill panels up, some rough arse has had a go but made a pigs ear of it.
My body shop yrs have paid off, panels repaired & in primer.
Just gorra unpick old alarm loom, new tyres on this wk, tax end of mth then I can play with suspension setup, looks like an R6 shock is on the cards asap, rides ok, front end is terrible tho, new tyres will help, then out with the tools.

Speeding new rules, do not get caught Smile

Drivers caught well over the speed limit from next week face a fine amounting to 150 per cent of their weekly earnings.

Exceeding the limit by these amounts will also have further ramifications, with a ban of seven to 56 days - depending on the gravity of the offence - as well as adding six points on their licence.

  98 FZS 600 for sale £500
Posted by: dpitt88 - 22-04-17, 04:56 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (2)

Hello FOCers  Smile

Haven't been on here for a while so long in fact i've had to open a new account!

Here is my 98 FZS600 for sale £500, Located in Eastbourne.

View Images here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0...VBKX0VkUnM

I have owned the bike for 6 years with little trouble, the bike has been mainly used as a workhorse.

I changed the look of the bike to look more of a street bike as I wasn't a fan of the boxeye.

I am only selling as I have an R6 which I am going to use as my daily ride. Two bikes and a car are too much!

the bike has around 48k on the clock the Speedo was changed to one that would fit in with the look of the bike at 23k. A history check can verify.

The bike had a service 7 months ago, which at the time one of the spark plugs broke off which in turn meant the head had to come off to be repaired, valve clearances were checked at this time which were fine.

7 months ago the rear caliper was rebuilt and pads front and back replaced along with new brake fluid.

Battery was replaced 7 months ago

Downpipe was replaced 2 years ago

Other parts that have been installed are:
Belly Pan installed
SP engineering slip on £160
MT03 style headlight cost £120 7 months ago
Renthal handlebars
New grips
KOSO Mirrors
KOSO Speedometer and RPM gauge

The bike needs some bits doing mostly cosmetic:
The front left fork seal needs replacing
The tank has some chips and marks from previous tank protector!
Headlight bracket needs replacing with a longer one to fit connection box behind.
The speedometer mileage indicator has dead pixels you can tell it is in the 20k range but is distorted.

Included in sale is the original boxeye fairing and a top box mounting rack.

Any questions please ask, I will answer as quick as possible.

Thanks for looking.

Dan

Wanted Renthal Ultra low bars (Silver or Black)
Posted by: Gaz66 - 22-04-17, 04:51 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

Any one got any Renthal bars (ultra lows) seem to be a favourite.
Silver or Black prefered.
Just bought the Fazer 1000 & it's on standard bars, I'm not loving the shape, bit keen on the old wrists.

Yorkshire area if poss.

  **SOLD** Fazer 600 2001 'X' £450 **SOLD**
Posted by: Frosties - 22-04-17, 04:46 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (8)

Hiya fellas,

Anyone up for a cheap Fazer ?

Bike has MOT until August 14th, need to find paper ticket but shows on the government website.

Has done 53,000 but still runs as sweet as. Does sound a bit tappety due to waiting for camchain tensioner to click up.

Silver in colour.

Has good PR3's fitted.

Braided hoses fitted front and back.

EBC pads front and back.

Topbox and Givi rack.

Has 2 keys for bike and one for topbox.

Hugger fitted. All the rest is standard.

Oxford heated grips fitted.

LED spot lights fitted. Headlight mod done.

Done around 500 miles since recent C&S replacement and service.

Has a bit of damage to offside fairing and small tank dent.

Even if not for you then you may know someone.

Bike is in Wokingham, Berkshire (will post pics as soon as)

Cheers

Jeff

  R6 shock upgrade
Posted by: Gaz66 - 22-04-17, 04:41 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

Hi Peeps.

Not long since joined FOCU.
Some interesting reading on here.
Upgraded from a very modified & tuned Kawy ZRX 1136R.

In it's place is a Silver 53 plate bog standard Fazer 1000.
Way better bike IMHO.

My question is, which year R6 shock works best on a Fazer 1000 & what's the correct length of the dog bones required? As I've heard R6 shocks are a tad shorter, so I assume different length dog bones will be required to bring ride height back to original.
I may fabricate my own? but if anyone can recommend a supplier I'll try that option if the price is right.

Thanks in advance, any info is mucho appreciated..
