Why would you remove tank panels ?
Posted by: malc - 10-01-19, 01:37 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - No Replies

I bought another FZ1 a month ago but unfortunately it had a few issues and the dealer has taken it back with full refund. I'm now looking at others, I've seen one low miles, a little pricey but looks a nice one... Only thing is the plastic tank side panels are not on it, I can't think why these would have been removed, they stick on with adhesive tape and don't need to be removed for maintenance. Maybe I'm being overly cynical after buying a bike with issues, I can only think it's had the tank repainted or replaced but the rest of the bike looks mint (only seen photo's), It doesn't look better without them either.
Anyone come up with reasons ? worried about buying another duffer, lol.

  Load of Dealer PISH!
Posted by: Decoke Dave - 09-01-19, 07:40 PM - Forum: General - Replies (12)

Call it what you like "Document fee", "Admin fee" it all ads up to the same thing! Rip off dealers trying to employ some kind of "clever salesmanship" nonsense. How many people have been caught out by this crap! An agreement is reached as to the total purchase price of a vehicle, after a deposit is paid the balance suddenly becomes plus X £, whatever they charge!  This is always after the deal is made and is only highlighted after the supposed total cost is agreed verbally and the deposit paid!  Yes it is mentioned in the website or advert small print but what they are trying to say is they are charging you for selling you the bike! The problem is on paying the deposit they then have your deposit money and a bike which may be short changed if they have promised to service it if you tell them to go and F*** themselves for the fee! Make sure you get a text, deposit and and balance amount BEFORE parting with ANY cash and keep it! Being a canny Scot it was only 300 and odd miles that prevented me from going and having an articulate word or two in person, (I had spoke to him on the phone about this"phantom charge") with the scrawny little smarmy shit (I had previously met in person) who I dealt with.  No wonder dealers get a bad name when some are like this!  No excuse for their actions!  On the plus side bloody good bike  Smile ! More to do with the original owner though.

If you are going to buy a bike from a dealer who charges this the FIRST thing to tell them is "Shove their fee up their ARSE!"

  Oil pressure switch
Posted by: Pal - 09-01-19, 02:23 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (63)

Twice in the last two days, my oil light has come on, spookily in exactly the same place on my daily commute.
After around a mile, I come to a T junction, and while idling, the light comes on. Revving the engine doesn't kame it go out, and when I pull away and lean left and right it still satys on. Stopping, switching off the ignition and then back on makes it go out, but I'm thinking the switch might be on its' way out.

Bike has 62000 miles and yes the oil is topped up.

  Rear shock durability
Posted by: Pal - 09-01-19, 02:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

Rear shock seem to be getting a bit tired after 62000 miles.
I don't take pillions, but the compression damping isn't as good as it was, and the spring is tired as it seems to sit lower than it used to.

How long have others stock shock lasted?

I do 300 miles a week commuting and do not spend any money on the bike I don't have to, was thinking of the YSS ones from the bay as replacement.

  New Owner In Louth
Posted by: Middy2000 - 08-01-19, 11:40 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (5)

Hi,
Just on the verge of becoming a Fazer owner with a deal struck on a 2001 fzs600.

Just before I part with my cash I'll throw a debate open.
Which bike should I get?

01 fzs600 with 8.5k. Sold by a work colleague & has been well looked after
08 fz6 with 50k. Sold by a retired gent who has maintained it irrespective of cost.

There is £350 difference.

I know there'll be views about which is the better bike.  It'll be used for a 25 mile round commute all year round. That's it.

Any thoughts?

Also anybody local to Louth or Grimsby areas?

  New Owner In Louth
Posted by: Middy2000 - 08-01-19, 10:14 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (12)

Hello all,

I'm just finalising the purchase of a 2001 model with just 8.5k on the clock. It's owned by a work colleague and it's been well looked after.
She's silver and totally standard.

I'm planning on doing the twin headlight wiring trick & replacing the front sprocket nut which are things I've read about.
Is there anything else I need to be aware of or should do?

Anybody local to Louth or Grimsby?

Bike stored for 8 years, will run but only on 3 cyclinders.
Posted by: bernieeccles - 08-01-19, 04:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (11)

Just got a 2002 FZS 600 from my brother which has been stored in his garage for 8 years or so, only done 16000 miles. Throttle was completely stuck closed so first thing was to take off the carbs to find out why. The carb with the TPS had a load of green crystalised gunk blocking  it shut so cleaned it out and checked the jets which appeared clear. The port from the engine side down to the choke plunger was blocked but cleared.

Said choke plunger was also stuck and in trying to pull it out, the little head came off.  It's free now but the choke will only operate on the other 3 cylinders. So put it all back together, fresh petrol, new oil and filter and it started up fairly quickly but only on 3 cylinders as said. Checked sparks and swapped over 3 and 4 plugs to make sure it was not a duff plug but still no 4 is not firing.

I am going to check the compression when I get a 10mm adapter but until then I am a bit stumped. Carbs have been out twice now and the offending no 4 carb is clear, I am almost certain. When I have confirmed that I have compression and spark is there any way to check that fuel is getting to no 4 without taking the carbs off again ?

Any help or ideas  appreciated.

  Battery Reg/Rec Opperation
Posted by: Kang - 08-01-19, 02:54 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (1)

I am clueless to the workings of electricity to start with.
So after the bike lying up for the Christmas and New Year the battery decided to pack in yesterday. Charged it up Sunday made it in to work (13m) to discover it was drained. Got it charged in work and got home.
So bought a new battery last night put it in and it fired nicely.
Now..... I have a very cheap battery tester which also doubles as a Reg/Rec tester too.
After I fire up the bike I turn it off test it all ok. Then I fire her up and nothing in regards the Reg/Rec (idle) so I bring up the revs and the R/R leds start lighting up.

Is this normal operation between Reg/Rec and the battery????

  Exup serviced, snapped bolt sorted
Posted by: Stinka - 06-01-19, 08:21 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

so in my haste to give my new ‘04 thou a thorough going over I stripped the exup for a clean and regrease. Rear bolt snapped, this was well before Xmas  :rolleyes  So I left it alone as didn’t have any taps or easy outs etc, and it just sat there stripped in garage for a month :o  Anyway, Mate came over today and drilled it and retapped the thread for me Smile so I’m a happy man. Just put it back together after giving the shaft a clean up with some emery, then a smear of copper grease on the moving parts and the new bolts I got. It is slightly out of adjustment with the ignition on, but functions fine and it goes like a bastard anyway as I just found out. I’ll have a go at adjusting the cables and center the fork thing over the hole after work one evening this Week.

Then it’s an oil change and pray for some dry days that ain’t so cold so I can use it a bit. It’s bogging a bit at low revs but it’s stood for a year prior to me buying it off its old owner. I’m thinking a couple of tanks of super through it and some serious rape should clear them carbs out
