EU plans 11 new safety measures for all new cars after 2021
Posted by: Val - 13-04-19, 01:10 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

You may have heard some claptrap about new EU speed limiters. Well it's not true.
It's just adaptive cruise control connected with GPS that can be switched off.

More important other bits are emergency braking, lane keep assist and fatigue monitoring by 2021.
Automatic emergency braking will be life safer against old ladies T-boning your bike prince Phil style  :lol

Clocks reset when ignition is switched off
Posted by: Omigod - 12-04-19, 10:40 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

I've been told there is a fix on here for this but can't see it.
Everytime I turn the ignition on the time clock says 1:00 and the trip is 0.0 they then start counting again only to be lost when ignition is turned off and on again.
It's a 2001 fzs1000

Anyone know the fix please?

  26 mpg, it's a mystery, suggestions please
Posted by: ProdigalSon - 12-04-19, 07:00 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

So I always thought my Gen.1 Fazer was a bit thirsty, i expected it to drop a bit after I fitted the Ivans Full Monty kt, ported the inlet rubbers and fitted a high flo filter but I did an 80 mile ride having brimmed my tank. I filled up when I got back and it took 13.64 litres which I make a paltry 26 mpg which I think is adequately described as horrendous. I know it's fuel injected but I spanked a Triumph Speed Triple RS demo today and it still showed over 40 mpg, other than the awful fuel consumption the bike seems to run spot on, ticks over smoothly, picks up revs quickly and pulls cleanly right to the red line on the rare occasion I venture that high up the rev range.
So any ideas oh knowledgeable ones?  :'(

  Kill switch or ignition key
Posted by: fazersharp - 12-04-19, 11:36 AM - Forum: General - Replies (26)

Just been watching some utube vids of bikers being pulled over in the US as filmed via their own helmet cams and I noticed that they all used the kill switch to turn off the bike and then turn the ignition key.I never use the kill switch and always use the key - what do everyone do.I do sometimes use the kill switch after parking just as a simple extra tiny bit of security - could be just enough to confuse an opportunist. Like it has done me when I return and the bike wont start for some reason  :o :lol

  Decent paddock stands?
Posted by: Dudeofrude - 12-04-19, 08:55 AM - Forum: General - Replies (15)

As per title can anyone recommend a good quality paddock stand?
Not interest in an ABBA or anything that fancy, just a normal good quality rear paddock stand preferably designed to fit the Fz1 so I can just line up and lift?

I currently have a 'universal' one with spring hooks and I'm sick to death of trying to line it up then faff about pushing the hooks back and forth to get them on the spools while also holding the bike upright etc etc then once its finally up I've noticed its leaning to one side so really need a new one

  lacquer the engine or not

Been reading the previous silver engine paint posts, no mention of finishing with lacquer  has this been tried before or is it really just thought of as a waste of time?

  Top Side Engine bolts
Posted by: Kang - 11-04-19, 02:15 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

I am removing the engine bars I got with the bike (ones cracked), do I have to support the engine on the under side to give it support while I remove the bolts?
Also I have read some conflicting lines about the torque rating when I go to reset the bolts is there any definite rating?

  Ducati gets rev restriction
Posted by: robbo - 10-04-19, 10:37 PM - Forum: Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) - No Replies

The FIM technical director Scott Smart has decided that the four Ducati Panigale V4R's will get a 250rpm restriction for this weekends racing at Assen. This will affect Bautista, Davies, Laverty and Rinaldi, their rev limit now being 16,100. At the other end of the scale Honda have been awarded a 500 rpm increase in an attempt to give Leon Camier some much needed help. Maybe Honda's fortune would have been a lot better if they had stayed with Ten Kate. Can't wait for Friday practise.
