I bought this today:

Metallic blue, 14K miles, looks as though it's never seen any rain (that will change!) and starts, stops, rides and steers very sweetly indeed.

Some answers would be very much appreciated if anyone can help....?

- parts file download location? or can anyone send me a file?
- Datatool system 3 - is there a key conversion or should I just remove it?
- is there a decent forum for these?

I rode it back from north London to Portsmouth and I think very highly of it so far. It will not be replacing the Fazer 1000 however....

Motorbike rider killed on A4042 yesterday afternoon
Posted by: Dynspud - 29-07-19, 12:11 PM - Forum: Events, Meets, Ride outs etc - Replies (3)

Bloody hell Paul.
This the road we took back to Pontypool at that exact time yesterday!!!!
Must have happened just behind us.

Poor bugger.
Yet another biker taken away and not his fault by the sound of it.

You've got to feel for the old guy driving the Range Rover too as he's probably in bits.
Mind you, it does strengthen the argument for more frequent driving tests above a certain age.

  Calimoto

Anyone used this 'calimoto' app?
It's actually really good for coming up with impromptu fun routes to ride on. I've only had it a few days so not fully explored it all but seems like it's a brilliant little app for bikers who like to ride without a destination in mind.
Also finds alternative 'twistier' routes for your normal commute (if possible obviously)

  Insurance Auto Renewal
Posted by: fazerfan - 28-07-19, 08:30 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

A word of caution on auto-renewal.

A week before mine was due for my Multi Bike Insurance (product name) with Carole Nash in June this year, I contacted them and added my car (new last year so years free insurance with Toyota was expiring).

This moved me to their Six Wheel Insurance and I paid immediately by Debit Card the requirement amount. I asked what I should do re the bike element that was due shortly and was clearly told not to pay that then as it would indeed still be 'auto-renewed'.

Now I know we are advised to check it has been taken from your bank on the renewal date (so need to tell me) but auto-renewal was introduced by the Government to avoid accidental non-renewal by motorists, but, as you've gathered from the title, it wasn't.

I found out 3 weeks after the due renewal date so had 4 machines with no cover for that period.

I immediately rang Carole Nash and they apologised and took the Debit Card payment - without me even having to provide the 3 digit code!  So the fault wasn't at my end.

The upshot, so far, is they still say I had no cover, BUT would pay any court fines. So who would be potentially disqualified I asked?

I had the evening before checked on the Motor Insurers Database (MID) and discovered the non insured aspect (which led to a somewhat sleepless night in itself) yet I also noticed that one machine was now recorded as a completely different Made and Model.  Carole Nash had it correct before and I have the documents to show this.

Both these aspects are the subject of a Complaint to Carole Nash as I raised the second one when I renewed the bike cover and again when I rang couple of days later as it still was and, at the time of writing this four days after they received it, it still is even though they are all now shown as Insured.

The moral of the story.  Either don't trust Carole Nash's statement of 'we will auto renew 5 days before' and 'you have nothing to worry about' and ring on the day. Or, don't use Carole Nash.

Any one else come across this problem that could leave us stranded by the roadside, bike seized, fined or even disqualified - if used more than once before YOU realise.  And all because Carole Nash hasn't any check or back up system.

Fazer 1000 Suspension woes and more
Posted by: Tim270 - 28-07-19, 01:43 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (70)

Hello gents!

Looking for some guidance.

I have a 1st gen 2005 fazer 1000. 30k on it, completely stock apart from a slip on.

Having a big problem since I got the bike, the front end is constantly bucking and juddering. Feels like having a chain with a bunch of hard spots in it(not the case), but I am pretty positive its the front forks. They cant seem to keep up with any small bumps in the road at all and giving a really jerky ride.

I have changed the oil (to 5w) and it helped a fair bit, but going softer on all the settings made it so divey during braking I had to adjust it back to being harder (and back to reacting to every tiny undulation in the road). When I rebuilt them, the fork caps had a bunch of witness marks somehow (??). The fork travel felt notchy at the top of the stroke pumping them by hand.

Is it worth rebuilding the stock forks with new bushings, or just bite the bullet and move to the R1 front end? I cant decide to if its worth throwing money at the stock setup to try and fix it or just move to new forks.

Any input would be much appreciated. Bike is intended for touring, It is basically a boneshaker even over smooth tarmac, throwing me out the seat over any serious pot holes (coming the conclusion to move to a better rear shock.) Im about 11 stone/70kg with gear if it helps.

Cheers!

  Unbranded Helmet headset, pretty good
Posted by: NorthWestern - 27-07-19, 08:13 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

My cardo Q3 recently gave up the ghost so I was looking to get another. Saw an unbranded one on eBay, a BT-S3 model. They come with all sorts of brands stuck on but this is blank, £30 delivered.

I wasn't expecting the same thing as a scala but it is pretty impressive for the price. The speakers etc are about the same, I can't really notice a difference.  The radio, which is pretty much what I use it for 99% of the time is great, good signal, easy tuning.

Phone calls (via Bluetooth) are also as good as the Q3. Battery has lasted a full week without charging (about 8hrs use with radio and a few phone calls).

The only negatives I have come across are that unlike the Q3 you can't set a phone number to call when you press the call button thrice. It simply calls the last number you rang. The buttons are OK, not quite as easy to find with gloves on but not bad at all.

You also can't preset radio stations. It's just like the good old days of one channel.

One reason I shelled out for the scala was for its bike to bike stuff but I have actually only used that feature once, when trying it with a friend... I haven't tried it with this one yet.

For £30 it is definitely worth a punt.
