A really silly topic
Posted by: Slaninar - 07-03-12, 05:07 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Just wanted to say, after 2nd year of owning a Fazer and reading this forum/site:
it is an excellent place. Loads of useful tips, advice, manuals, experience etc.

Been looking for similar forums for helping with my mate's Honda CBF600 and SWMBO's Peugeot 106, and couldn't find anything nearly as good. Only then did I fully realise how good FOC is. Cheers!  Smile

New to bikes, New to Yamaha and hopefully Fazer. Advice sought
Posted by: akula - 07-03-12, 02:12 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

Hey everyone. I apologise if a similar topic has been posted here but I just want to get a bit of advice from people who know. I am hopefully about to buy my first bike...a fazer in the next week or so and I have two options I am torn between.
One of the bikes is a 2002 Fazer 600s with belly pan. It has only 6k miles and has been totally cherished and really is in showroom condition. Unfortunately it requires tax and MOT. The seller is looking £2100.
The other bike is also a very very clean 2007 FZ6 S2 in blue with 10k miles. It has 8 mths MOT but needs taxed. The seller is looking £2250.
I have heard that the older bikes are better and as this would be my first bike I want to make the right decision. I am concerned about the older bike needing work soon, or seals failing due to its age but it has been garaged and is immaculate. You really would be hard pushed finding a better example at a year old.

I am just really interested in you guys views on this. How do the level of miles compare to the age etc.

Look forward to reading your replies...

Regards

Chris

Gen 1 2003 Fazer Thou For Sale
Posted by: Pudge - 07-03-12, 11:16 AM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (6)

Hi All,

My trusted commuter has to go as I have decided to throw in the towel commuting into London.
I have two small kids and feel the risk is too high to be riding into central London and around the M25 on a daily basis.
I did get punted off it on the M11 in traffic in 2009 so it was a cat C due to front fairing headlight and a few scuffs. I have photos to show the damage at the time so you can see it wasn't serious. I have been using it ever since I replaced all the broken parts.

The bike is a 2003 Silver 1000. It has got 52,000 miles on the clock and has been ridden all year around so it isn't the prettiest out there. With obvious signs of corrosion and the normal engine paint flaking problems.

Saying that it is mechanically 100%.

It has just had the forks re-chromed and rebuilt with heaver Hagon fork springs. (cost me £350)
Brand new front and rear brake pads.
It has had a brand new Hagon rear shock, jack up plates and new Bridgestone BT020 in the last 300 miles.
Chain and sprockets 2000 miles old.
I bought a set of exhaust downpipes off a 2000 mile bike with the powervalve etc in so that is as good as it is going to get as well. I put new cables on at the same time. This was done at the same time as the chain and sprockets.
It has just been MOTed.

It has heated grips, neoprene bar muffs, higher rise Renthal bars, flip up screen, scottoiler, Givi rack and top box, neoprene shock guard, neoprene fork gators, engine crash bars

I'm looking for £1650 for it.

Drop me a mail at davekeeble2010@hotmail.com if you are interested.

Thanks for reading.

Hello All From A Retiring Fazer Owner
Posted by: Pudge - 07-03-12, 10:55 AM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (3)

Hi All,

I live in Maldon in Essex and have been travelling into and around London for the last 12 years on various bikes and I am unfortunately throwing in the towel.

The end of my current role as well as having two small kids has made me think that the risk is not worth it any more.

Over the years I have owned many different bikes and pretty much worn them all out. The list I have used over the years is here.

Honda Fireblade RRW 2008 - Fantastic bike even for commuting but heavy on chains.
Yamaha R1 2008. Again a surprisingly good London commuter but no way of getting luggage on it so only had this one a short time.
Kawasaki GT550 - Winter hack that lasted nearly 100,000 miles. Fantastic bike.
Honda Deaville - Absolute rubbish. Bought new and after 30,000 miles had been back with Honda more than I had ridden it.
BMW K1100, what a disaster this was. Everything fell off it in the 40,000 miles i did on it.
Suzuki RF900. Great bike, massively underrated and lasted about 70,000 miles.

Now the best bike I have owned for commuting and general hacking about is the bike I currently own, A 2003 Fazer 1000.
This has been the best bike I have owned and is still going strong at 52,000 miles.

I will be putting the Fazer up for sale in the correct section soon so if any one is interested in a good cheap bike have a look there.

Thanks and great site by the way, very informative.

Dave

  So what I have broken?
Posted by: Jazoli - 06-03-12, 11:55 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (13)

Hi all first post with new username, I was a member on the old yuku board when I had a fzs600 but forgot my login.

Anyway to cut a long story short, I've an '03 thou now, I was halfway through fitting my bikevis led's when the old boy turned up for a natter, I managed to short the sidelight wires together that I had spliced into because I got distracted, smoke appeared from somewhere (i thought it cooked the smidsy light modulator that ran the leds as that stopped working when I tested it off the bike)

Now the bike starts and runs fine but when I indicate or put the hazards on it flashes the sidelights and the indicators and instrument lights are very dim, also the lcd clock in the dash turns on and off.

The side lights and dip/main beam work perfectly, I tried changing the flasher relay as I had a spare but its not that.

I'm no electrician but not inept either, I just hope I haven't broken my new bike, I've only had it a day :'(

Can anybody offer any advice?

Thanks in advance

  What should I buy?
Posted by: flesh - 06-03-12, 11:05 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Looking to replace either my Gen 2 or FZ6 (just for a change) but struggling to think of what to get as I have done most bikes.
I have wanted to buy a Triumph for years but have never bothered as my local dealer is sh*te, but have thought why let that put me off. Been thinking about getting the road version of the Triumph Tiger 800.
Never had an "adventure" style bike so don't know wht to expect. Anyone any experience with them? What they like (positive/negative comments appreciated)

  Friendly Fazer Syndrome
Posted by: camlyd - 06-03-12, 09:12 PM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

:thumbup :thumbup :thumbup  Can anyone else confirm their experiences are similar to mine, when parking a Fazer close to anyone who has the slightist interest in bikes. It's great, pop it on the stand and they appear, the friendly Fazer fan club. Comments such as, "great bikes fazers"," I had one of those", "I want one of those", "good bikes my mate has/had one" etc... etc... all ice breakers that either start a lenghtly chat or a bit of banter. It's quite amusing when I'm out riding with my mates, especially as one has an immaculate Fireblade which is bit older and the other a R1, neither have the Fazer appeal.
