  ais removal
Posted by: fazer6868 - 11-03-12, 04:14 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (32)

Hi

my gen 1 has done 132k and have just done the shims and replaced cam chain and tensioner with the help of some mates.

putting it all back together i am trouble with the ais where you clamp the ais pipes to the spigots ( if that is the correct term) by the exhaust pipes.

The jubilee clips are welded to the splayed ends of the pipes and have taken one of the splayed legs with them as in permanent removal of a leg thereby weakening the clamp.

As the ais is apain in the backside i am thinking of removing it but am not sure how you blank off the spigots?

is it done by way of a cover ( from kits that i beleive are sold ) or by tap and die.

if the latter i am not sure i have the skills to do this as no absolutey nothing about this and i am the type of home mechanic that if it can go wrong it will!

So in summary is there something out there which is easy to do rather than too involved and can someone send me a purchase and info link please

The rest of the job i am confident i can do.

Thanks

  stuttering fzs 600

my trusty 98 600 fazer has developed a stutter at 7/8000 rpm,i changed the inlet rubbers thinking that this was the problem as they have been split for a few years, but the stutter is still there, its a big one but a bit more gas and it pulls through,i put me carb vacuum guages on this morning and all was well, bike is well looked after and had a good service at the end of last year although the shims have never been looked at,there is a slight tap when cold but soon goes, ive owned the bike for nearly 10 years and never had a problem but with the better weather with us iam keen to sort it out.....iam going to do a compression test this afternoon but iam not expecting anything amiss, just something to cross of the list....new plugs were fitted last service but the caps are origanal so will probably treat it to a new set.....in the back of my mind iam thinking coil packs........any one else had simulaar problems ?

Hi,

One of my pad retaining pins is seized solid in the caliper, gonna have to Cut/Drill it free. Does anyone have the dimensions, there are some stainless ones on ebay but all different sizes.

There is one original on Ebay.

Black Round Things.. Dunplop Vs Mich?
Posted by: lardarse - 11-03-12, 12:16 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (18)

Done to death, I know, but I have been running roadsmarts now for the last couple of years on an FZS 600.

Since picking the thou up, I have been a little wary of the square death Metzeler fitted to the front and rear of the bike. Previous owner looked after the thing, but must've had stabilisers on it....

I am contemplating changing the Metz to either Roadsmarts, or pushing the boat out and going to say maybe a pair of Pilot 3's...

Anyone had the chance to do any direct comparisons on these tyres? I'm seing some bargain prices for front and rear sets on fleabay for PR1's, but is the extra £80 justifiable?

The bike will be taking me, the missus, and some luggage to Scotland in May, so mainly A/M road cruising for the first 1500 miles or so..

Any advice greatfully received, or is there a tyre out there that just suits the 1000 that I am missing? I am not a GP hero, but do have my moments! Big Grin

Ta

Kev

  Fuel Leak
Posted by: Rangrally - 10-03-12, 09:09 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Hi all,

My 98 FZS started to leak fuel about a month ago, I stripped off the tank and carbs and found a tiny split in the (now brittle) pipe to the carbs so I replaced all of the original pipes with good quality fuel hose. This cured the problem for a few weeks but I now have the same problem occurring again  :eek  SO today I took it all apart again and took the carbs apart to look for potential problems but everything looked ok so I put it back together and went for a run: no leaks on the run but it did have a period of spluttering which cleared. I thought I had solved the issue so put the bike away, however,  checking it an hour or so later the bottom of the float chambers are dripping petrol and it now seems the fuel pump has given up the ghost as it has stopped ticking........I hope this is a coincidence and it is something I have dislodged which is stopping it running (will be checking this tomorrow)

So the main question is: has anyone experienced leaky carbs and what was the cure? Could the float levels be wrong? All the bowls seem in tact and close correctly.......help!

  BS kite on silencer question
Posted by: Ghoti - 10-03-12, 08:14 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (3)

If my old BS kite mark "fell off" my straight through Akrapovik, as they do you know, and I wanted to put one on to help at MOT or being stopped by police time replace it, where should the kite mark go?

Is it where the 'not for road use' was, ie under the little pipe at the back of the silencer, where the 'E' mark is on the OE pipe, ie on the inside, or doesn't it matter.

Thanks in advance
