  Oil Leak
Posted by: old son - 09-11-19, 05:54 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (9)

I have an oil leak that seems to be coming from the area around the bottom of the casing that has the gear change spindle coming through it. If it's the gasket that has blown then I presume I can do this with the engine in-situ? Why would this gasket blow for no obvious reason?

Is there anything else in this area that could cause an oil leak? I notice two oil feed pipes just below the cover. The oil leak seems to be above these pipes but is it worth removing these at the same time and changing the O rings on the ends (if they have O rings to seal)?

The leak is serious enough that I cant use the bike until the leak is resolved, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Well isn't it nice to be back!
Posted by: Bracechenko v2 - 08-11-19, 10:55 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (1)

....especially as it's been so many years!  Big Grin

I used to hang around here back in the day. I think I first registered as 'Bracechenko' (original that I'm now v2 right!  :rolleyes ) when I bought my 1st bike (FZS600) back in 2006. Well since then I've had 4 motorbikes in total and 3 of them were Fazer's so I reckon I qualify as a fan.

My current Fazer is a FZ1-SA 2007 with all of the right mods. I've owned it since 2011 and absolutely love the bike so have never considered changing it. Only recently did I start to think it was beginning to look slightly dated but a nice LED light conversion, removal of the Givi rack and a little tidy up around the rear and she looks nice and fresh again.

I used to use my bikes to commute and have ridden about 200k miles in the last 13 years but now I only have my 1 bike which is mainly for those occasional blasts along with at least a couple of mini tours of Europe.

Well, nice to say hello to you all. I'll upload some pics at some point soon and will likely hang around to see what's going on. I've got a few FZ1 bits which I'll post for sale too.

  Single Seat conversion

Was a single seat conversion ever made for the FZS Fazers? More likely as an aftermarket part (including rear fairing)?

  Tft dash
Posted by: tex - 07-11-19, 02:13 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (2)

I also brought a tft dash , and can confirm it's a brilliant piece of kit, took 15 minutes to install plug and play. It's very clear  with plenty of options . I was having trouble reading the old clocks with the multi gauge so it's a great upgrade. Well built and simple to use , you don't need a degree in i.t to use it?. Highly recommended.

DRONES! Must be registered, theory test + yearly fee, or face £1000 fine!
Posted by: F4celess - 07-11-19, 01:19 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Drone users in the UK must now pass an online theory test and register as an operator for £9 a year, or face a £1,000 fine.

I was building my own multi-rotor flying craft 15+ years ago, when all the materials I'd pickup from a DIY store (wood / square aluminium rod). When you'd spend WEEKS fabricating the Frame then soldering all the wiring plus electronics, plus tweaking your R/C Transmitter settings, to get your creation to hover in a spot - all that effort finally for that moment. A real sense of achievement. 8)
When building/flying such craft was only accessible to the true hobbyist.

Now in 2019 (actually the last Several years) - you can walk in to many high street stores, spend £150+ upwards and walk out 5 minutes later with a ready to fly multi-rotor craft that effectively hovers/flies on its own. A few minutes later, battery charged and you are at your local park happily zipping this thing around the skies - happy days??? Well NO. No understanding of the risks, etiquette, regulations, or how to fly safely - (more importantly, when or where NOT to fly).

This responsibility should have been placed on these "Drone" manufacturers pumping out these mass produced units. The craft should have had some system to disable it flying straight out of the box (like a firmware setting), until the User had successfully read through/acknowledged some safety brief (perhaps that had to be completed online on the manufacturer website), so the new owner was EDUCATED, before taking it out for its maiden flight.

Media channels (pumping out all the bad press) have also created this "5hit storm" we see today. This hysteria surrounding "Drones", plus the public hatred of these craft. Will even go as far as saying the high profile cases in the News with apparent "Drone sightings" at airports (Gatwick / Heathrow), that downed commercial flights for days, were orchestrated stunts by authorities, with this ultimate aim to clamp down (LOCK down) use of these craft on UK soil. Hence the introduction of the above new laws.

I also now find more often than not while out flying my own craft (in my usual RURAL field location) I am on the receiving end of negative attention from members of the public. The last time I was out, a woman approached me and was threatening to call the Police if I did not land it immediately! :rolleyes You can't make this chit up. Smile

Anyone else own or fly these fabulous craft, with thoughts on this topic?
Would also be interested to hear from anyone who has had bad experiences associated with these craft. Smile

  Leon ( luckiest,jammiest,most overrated ) Haslam
Posted by: coffee - 05-11-19, 05:46 PM - Forum: Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) - Replies (5)

O.K. I've never been Leon Haslams' biggest fan, really liked his old man who I've met a few times from when I was racing and since.I've always thought most of the rides he's had with top draw machinery was due to the fact that Ron would have had a fair bit of influence with teams and factories and to be fair most dads' would do the same, but enough is enough for years now he's had some of the very best rides going and apart from taking the BSB title in what I think was the weakest season,no Shakey,Jake Dixon etc he's done nothing ,then gets a works Kawasaki to ride alongside the greatest WSB rider of them all stating that"johny rea has never beaten me" and we get the usual bunch of excuses while Johnie took the title again ON THE SAME BIKE.Now with all the great young talent about he gets a works Honda for next season!! unbelievable. When he finishes this excuse ridden season maybe Ducati will give him a chance or Honda will draft him in alongside Marquez  the blokes' got more jam than Hartleys. :wall
