gen 1 600 headlights and fairing needed in west wales
Posted by: caretaker - 17-08-12, 12:36 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - No Replies

if you have a shabby gen 1 600 fairing lying around, i'd be interested. if you have a headlight assembly and the nearside one is broken, i'll have that too! dont ask, its for a project i'm working on.

Been lurking for ages now so thought I should say hi.  I have a so far lightly modded FZ1 in the Retro colours which is soon to be heavily modded.  Been riding for 19 years on various steeds.  I'm in Surrey but seem to gravitate towards the West Country for the longer rides - I should probably move out there.

  dare I !
Posted by: jackojet - 16-08-12, 11:32 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

Hi all what's the most I dare push std forks through the yokes? Got 12 mm now no problems.

Question is can I go more?
Reason is my gen 1 always felt top heavy, to me and your hands sit in the wind blast as not covered by front fairing.
Daft question to some but just experimenting.
Obviously don't want lose too much suspension travel or put horn through mudguard .
Any expert thoughts  on this welcome Smile
Cheers jacko

Just replaced my rear tyre and for the first time EVER i have got over 5000 miles from a rear tyre on the gen 1
5586 miles from a 023

the 023 before that only got 4407 but the first 023 was a normal one and the 2nd one (5586) was a 023 heavy. there are 2 types one is designed for things like fjr1300's and the realy big heavy tour bikes.
fitted it by mistake and to be honest it dose not feel as good as the normal 023. it feels a bit stiff and unforgiving, allmost to the point of feeling overinflated even though i was running it a good 5psi lower than normal.
but at 1000 miles more from it, it could be worth the lack of feel.

Just replaced it with a PR3 though so will see how that lasts, but it feels realy good. as expected as i loved the pr2's

  rattle from clutch in neutral
Posted by: philshaq - 16-08-12, 08:35 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Hi guys

I got back from a bit of a run out this eve and noticed when I knocked it into neutral and let the lever out there was a rattle. Pull the lever back in and it stops.

It doesn't seem to do it when gears Srebrenica engaged...

Is it anything serious? Please say it isn't!

  Help! electrical fault
Posted by: dolau - 16-08-12, 06:10 PM - Forum: FZ6 / Fazer - Replies (3)

Had a problem with my radiator fan on my FZ6S2 - it wouldnt come on- known about it for some time but got reminded on Friday after a 'spirited' ride on a warm afternoon I got caught at some convoy controlled road works.

At 117degC the temperature light came on and the temperature display started to flash- didnt know whether to shut the engine off or way for the convoy to come through. Got to 120 before I could move off and the temperature came straight down with diligent use of the clutch to get the air through.

Use dit since and had no problems. Booked it into the local bike shop (not Yamaha) this morning and rode into toen and dropped it off- no problems

Went to pick up the bike tonight and found that the mechanic couldnt start the bike. He wondered if I had damaged the key dropping it through the letterbox this morning- had my spare key but that made no difference.

Engine turned over but would not fire and the temperature display says HI and flashing although it was fine when I left it.

Mechanic had phoned the local Yamaha garage who suggested holding select and reset while turning on the ignotion gets you into some sort of mechanics test code- move it up to 54 and that starts the fan even if the engine is cold so you can test it.

There it is- engine is imobilised and wont start HISS red flashing light goes off with the igntion. normal washing its face and normal display apart from the temperature display saying HI and flashing. Assuming this is not a cheary greeting any ideas what is wrong?

  return to the fazer 1000
Posted by: lingy - 16-08-12, 05:52 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (7)

Hy there, new to the site have just registered today.

After a spell away from the fazer, (zx12r for just over a year), I coundnt stand it any longer, so bye bye zx and hello 2004 fazer 1000.
I previously had a fazer but just fancied a try of the power of the Kawasaki, eventually got sick of it drinking fuel like it was going out of fashion and aching arms and shoulders.
Picked up a bargan mint std bike, promised myself I would leave as is, as their pretty good in std form, but two weeks later couldnt resist I have ordered a road leagal Pipe Werx can which has arrived today and I am very impressed with (not yet fitted) but looks very good quality.
To go one step further because I will not settle until Ive tried it, I have ordered a Ivans slip on kit which I will be fitting myself.
I just hope its as good as they say because I have had numerious bikes in the past which have had dynojet kits and power comanders etc fitted and to be honest yes some did make a small differance but £for£ was it worth it probably not.

Anyway hello everyone its nice to be back on the fazer. Smile
