Fitting a Givi 340f Mono rack arms to the FZS400
Posted by: unfazed - 10-09-12, 12:13 AM - Forum: Fazer 400 and other models - Replies (2)

My son need a top box for his Ffazer 400 for college and since there are no racks that I could find made specifically for the 400, I modified a part of the givi 340f mono arm kit to fit and made up a new bracket. I documented how I did it after a fellow from Greece asked about fitting a rack to the Fazer 400 and uploaded the file to: Downloads » Manuals » Fazer 400 » Fitting Givi rack to Fazer 400.pdf.
The only extras I added to assist the fitting was a used pair of rear indicators from the Fazer 600 as they are longer than the 400 ones helped when fitting the mono arms

  My front brakes are Sh1t
Posted by: Jimmygixxer - 09-09-12, 11:26 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (55)

Ive had my fazer a while now, my only gripe is that the front brakes are pish. Not good considering they are known to be very good usually.
I have renewed the brake fluid and thoroughly cleaned the pistons back like new.
Still got the original lines and pads on it.
Will a pad change sort them, and do brake pads degrade over 14 years?
Any recommendations on pads?

  Braided Brake Line failure?
Posted by: darrsi - 09-09-12, 08:02 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (34)

Has anyone ever had braided brake lines fail or degrade on them?

I've ordered some new front lines anyway, but was just curious if anyone had any experience of this at all?

  Front sprocket issues again
Posted by: unfazed - 09-09-12, 07:16 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (28)

I own a FZS600 which I bought new in 2003 and now has 72000miles on the clock. 3 weeks ago my 5th sprocket nut failed, this time taking all but 2 threads on the shaft with it and the last 2 nuts were the modified nut, even though Yamaha were supposed to have fixed it in 2005. Dubious of the ‘repair’ at the time I tapped the holes in the 2003 sprocket cover to take the plate and damper from the 1998/1999 sprocket cover to prevent the sprocket falling on to the shaft and leaving me stranded again
Seriously pissed off I contacted Yamaha and under no circumstances would they do anything about it, not even supply me with a new shaft, head and base gaskets free of charge, for me to to replace it myself. They even suggested I spot weld the nut on.
I spoke to my bike guru friend and he recommended I cut a slot in the shaft and put a circlip on it or drill and tap a hole at the end of the shaft and put a washer and bolt on it to prevent the nut falling off. I did both as a sort of belt and braces job.
I uploaded what I did with some pictures and since I did not know where to put it I put it under
Downloads » Manuals » FZS600 Fazer » How I fixed my Sprocket nut problem
Hope it helps

  Rear Shocker
Posted by: Andy FZS - 09-09-12, 05:46 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (5)

I've been getting some slightly unnerving weaving from the rear of the bike once I get over about 60mph, I thought it could have been wheel badly balanced perhaps but I then noticed the preload on the rear shock was at about half way so I wound it fully up and things have improved. Is this normal? is there any thing to check over the winter or a mod / new shock? :\

Cheers Andy Smile

FZS1000 2001 Gen 1 For sale - cheap price, all the extras you could want
Posted by: Tcat2001 - 09-09-12, 04:42 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (5)

Due to possible relocation to the US for work I'm having to sell my Fazer thou. Those of you regulars will know her as 'kitty'. She's SORN, no MOT, due a service and currently not insured hence cheap price. Extras listed below. Will take offers in the close region of £2,200.

Bike is located in South Wales about 3 miles from the M4 halfway between Cardiff and Swansea, just outside Bridgend. PM me for contact number and details. All extras included and don't bother asking if I'll take them off to sell separately as I don't have the time to remove them, list them, package them and then send them off. Dragon and Leprechaun are not included :-) Have the original seat, can and rear shock somewhere buried in the  garage and house so if I can find them I'll throw them into the sale as well..
