  Caught by a camera
Posted by: Panthor - 31-01-13, 09:18 PM - Forum: General - Replies (20)

Before Christmas I sped through a speed camera and got caught (stationary camera that flashed) funnily enough it was in the cage while I wasn't paying attention, not on the mighty fazer which I am probably more likely to speed on. As I've never been flashed before I was wondering if people know how long it usually takes to receive the fine/points in the post as I've heard nothing yet.

If you suspect that there is a bit more oil is in your bike than is necessary, what would be the best way to remove said oil, complete change or just drop a bit from sump nut and then tighten back up, cheers all

  Newbie Again

Hi All
Glad to be back on a Fazer after a few years riding other bikes. The Fazer 1000 has got to to be one of the best bikes that I have ever owned.  Don't know why I sold my last one.
Anyway looking forward to spending time on the forum which has invaluable information to keep my bike in good condition and providing advice on mods.
It's good to be back

Bloomin heck these things don't hang about!

Got my first proper chance to actually give the beasty a bit of a handful, and what I got was definitely not what I was expecting!
I just came off a ZX9R, which itself had once I'd finished with it, just over 140bhp at the wheel. The Fazer I have now is standard in the engine department, except for a slipon can, so I was expecting it to be down on the Ninja anyway, and due to the "midrange bias" of the FZS, I was expecting the Ninja to be a fair bit quicker once you got the revs screaming.

With this in mind, I pulled out onto the A6 at about 30mph, selected second and nailed it. With the 9, this would result in the front end going a bit light, and then once I'd selected third it'd be solid as a rock until ...mph. What actually happened on the Fazer was the front end came right up, let go of the throttle a bit and it went back down, put into 3rd and nailed it and it started getting incredibly light on the front again!
I've already been very impressed with the engine so far for it's sheer grunt, but now I reckon from 0-100 it'd have my old 9 beat, to maybe 140 odd it'd probably be pretty even, and only after that would the ram air and aerodynamics of the 9 get it ahead.

My general summation of the above: "Re-tuned engine"? Balls, it's an R1 engine that just has flat bars!
Can see me very much liking this bike, although I may need to sort a steering damper out if I start cracking on more as I'm very much not used to how light the bars were on it!

  Trouble getting into 3rd gear
Posted by: Candyman - 31-01-13, 02:28 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (17)

I can shift up to 2nd but it won't go up to 3rd.  The lever moves up but it just stays in 2nd.  I then have to change down to 1st then back to 2nd a few times and then the gears work fine for the rest of my journey.  After leaving the bike until after work or overnight the problem comes back until I shift between 1st and 2nd a few times.
Any ideas?  The bike is a 1998 FZS600 with 30k on the clock.  I commute 70 miles a day mostly on the motorway so gearbox is not extensively used and I change the oil every 6 months.
