  slight tapping noise in engine?
Posted by: aj1soad - 19-05-13, 10:05 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (20)

Ive got an 03 fazer with 17900 on the clock. After repairing a hole in the exhaust, changing the oil ad fitted new plugs I've noticed that there is a tapping noise coming from the head. I can hear it on both sides but its louder on the right side. It there all the time even when the bike is warm. I tend to hear the sound more when im on the bike. Is this normal for fazers?

Rear wheel bearing -looking for hints and tips
Posted by: Jamieg285 - 19-05-13, 08:24 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (10)

Having a go at my first chain and sprocket change this afternoon, but as I pulled the rear wheel out, the left spacer fell out and exposed a totally knackered bearing.

It will obviously need to be replaced, but this is another job of which I have zero experience. I'm looking for as much info and advice as I can get before I attack this in a few days time.

Are these bearings ones that are best replaced with OEM, or would Wemoto parts or similar be OK?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

  Hi All.
Posted by: Running On Faith - 19-05-13, 07:48 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (8)

Hi everyone.

Firstly I'm new to the forum so thought id say hello. Had a few fazers over the years both 600's and 1000's. Now on my 3rd fzs600 as I need better fuel economy.  Great to be back on the fazer. Brilliant bikes and this looks like a great forum.

One question I have is does anyone know of any mod to raise the seat height as I'm finding it a little low for comfort now. I have heard of the suspension mod, but does this alter handling?

Many thanks..

  Low revs stuttering
Posted by: Anarch - 19-05-13, 07:19 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (39)

Hi all,
Since last year I've noticed stuttering on the low revs - up to 3/4 000 rpm. When i keep the revs at around 2,500 rpm the engine sounds nearly like an old two stroke.
I've searched for similar threads on this forum, followed the advice there and I've:

- replaced plug caps
- checked spark plugs
- balanced carbs (Autumn)
- I've added some carb cleaner to the fuel (Profi Fuel Max) - didn't seem to help much

I think that there are two possibilities left - either the HT leads (and coils) need replacing or the jets are clogged.
Do you know how can I check whether the HT leads are faulty, and what should I use for cleaning carbs (once I open them up).

Or maybe you have some other ideas ?

Thanks

  SV650S First Impressions
Posted by: Bracechenko - 19-05-13, 06:22 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Yes yes, wrong forum I know but i'll throw in some comparisons against the FZS600 it replaced OK!?!  :rolleyes

So, if you've read my other thread, i've just bought a Suzuki SV650S to replace my ageing FZS600. Suzuki is a '56 plate, 12k miles and the FZS is a '99 plate with 73k miles.

First impressions of the Suzuki are that it's not as pokey as I expected for a twin and certainly nowhere near as quick as the FZS. The suspension is quite soft and the riding position is sportier which made my wrists ache by the time my 200 mile ride home was over.

However, there is something really nice about the thrum of a twin with a Scorpion can and it's so useable around town as you don't really need to change gear very often, it'll happily pull away at low revs in whatever gear you want really - that's a useful thing for the commute.

Is my Suzuki a better bike that my FZS....Yes (On account that it's much newer and better looking)
Is the SV650 a better bike than the FZS....No
Am I pleased that i've swapped....Yes
Am I going to miss the old FZS when she's gone....Yes!  Sad

A plus for the Suzuki is the weight though, it's a feather-weight at 169kgs and you really feel the difference when tipping it into the corners. The chicken strips from the previous owner are well and truly gone now!

If it was my only bike I would definitely want a bit more power but as I have a FZ1 to satisfy that on the weekends, I think this SV is going to be a really good bike for the morning commute. The fact I got it for an absolute BARGAIN is even better!

So, watch out for a 'well used' but well loved FZS600 soon. Just need to strip off my Scottoiler and heated grips and it'll be up for sale....missus wont let me have 3 bikes...jeez!!  :rolleyes
