  Rear brake bleed
Posted by: humbucker88 - 27-08-13, 07:23 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (7)

Replaced my rear brake line, attached the caliper, bled the MC, bled one side of the caliper, went to bleed the other side/nipple but not getting any pressure? Does this mean the caliper piston seals are busted?

  inside garage roof
Posted by: phil on a fazer - 27-08-13, 07:08 PM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

Hi

i want to insulate my garage roof the same way ive done the back of the door which is by using 1" thicke polystreyne board from wickes.

I will do it by putting batterns along the roof joyce, then sliding the poly board along on top of them. It will mean that the poly board will be about an inch away from the ply (to create an air gap)

I wont do this between every joyce (due to shelves being in the way) but i will do 3/4 of the garage.

Will it make the roof sweat, thus create mold and rot???

In the summer, when you put you hand a few inches from the ply in the picture...it is hot!

  Starter clutch?
Posted by: hotmetal - 27-08-13, 03:30 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (8)

Hi chaps, some of you will know me from the other FZS1000 forum, but it's a bit quiet over there these days so I thought I'd post here.

Got a bit of bother with the old faithful. (Gen 1, 2004, 31,000ish miles)
I rode down to Germany recently with absolutely no issues, parked the bike up in the garage and haven't ridden it for a couple of weeks. Went to start it the other day and all I got was the starter motor whirring away but nothing from the engine at all.

It sounds to my (untrained) ears as if the starter clutch might be sticking/knackered. I don't remember ever reading about anyone else having this though. Seems unusual but I'm a bit worried it's going to have me off the road for a bit as it sounds like it's probably an expensive thing to fix. Anyone know anything about this?

Many thanks for any constructive replies! Worried this might bankrupt me.

***EDIT***

I might be wrong about this. Just tried again and I got a big backfire, so I checked and it seems that vapours are coming out of the exhaust when I turn it over. But it seems to turn over quite easily with no spark. Might not be the starter clutch. Tried bump starting it. In 1st there's loads of compression, in 2nd it turns over well enough but still seems as if there's no spark. I've checked the little fuse box but they all seem ok. The plug caps are all properly seated and all the other electrics seem to work OK. Got a full tank of fuel. Carb is probably flooded now from me trying.

Any ideas what I need to try next?

  Best replacement caliper.....

....for the rear brake of a FZS 600 '98? I have been told that a R1 will fit with some filing of the mounts, and a TRX will fit with it's carrier and torque arm. So what is the best brake to fit?

Nitrogen over Air - can you feel the difference?
Posted by: Camshaft - 27-08-13, 10:49 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (11)

On my weekend riding haunt a big bikers cafe has a guy offering Nitrogen for your bike tyres.
The brochure says better grip, feel, longer lasting tyres, stable pressure from cold to warm tyres, less carbon foot print through better tyre rolling efficiency and some other bullshit. Oh, and less leakage as the Nitrogen molecules are larger. Actually the air we breathe is 78% Nitrogen according to Wiki.

The leakage and stability adds up. I can't feel difference riding though. I thought I did straight up but that was probably in my head shortly after a double shot  :rollin

If anyone has tried the Nitrogen can you really feel the difference riding your machine?

Front and Rear Sprocket - No Chain
Posted by: hightower - 27-08-13, 10:12 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (6)

So last Saturday I went and did a 300 mile journey, and midway through the chain snapped. Needing a quick fix I managed to get the bike to a local garage who had a chain to fit, but no sprockets. He got me on the road and suggested I change the sprockets as soon as I got back, so here I am - does anyway have a link for a sprocket set without a chain?

Although most seem to come in a set with the chain, I have found a couple of sets without but they seem expensive (£50+) - is that the going rate or can you offer me a cheaper link?

Thanks,

Hot tub hire - any experiences?
Posted by: clanadam - 27-08-13, 09:39 AM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Non-biking subject sorry but just in case anyone here has experience of these...

Thinking of hiring a hot tub for the weekend as part of my daughter's 13th birthday party. A company in Glasgow charge £180 for a "5 day" hire (setup on Thurs, collect on Mon). Anyone know if these hires are good/bad etc?
