  Clutch change question
Posted by: adeejaysdelight - 13-10-13, 04:35 PM - Forum: General - Replies (15)

F.A.O Moderator - please leave this here for a couple of days so I can get feedback from ex FZS 600 owners.

Hi Guys,

I changed my clutch plates and springs to EBC heavy duty stuff. I also changed the chain and sprockets and broke the gear selector rod whilst doing so, therefore I had to change that too. When I built the clutch back up, I did it one piece at a time, so I know that side is ok.

So, today I assembled it all and when I pull the clutch lever - nothing happens. It is flaccid. I was wondering if I need to change the clutch cable to? It is probably the original one, so about 32K old. Will this solve my problem, or have I made an error somewhere else?

Any help appreciated

  Pheasant suicide
Posted by: sure2ride - 13-10-13, 01:30 PM - Forum: General - Replies (15)

So there I am, cruising along on my Fazer8 on a nice B road, minding my own business, when a suicidal pheasant flies up from the very grassy and overgrown verge, straight in front of me. No chance to do anything except hold on tight and watch as it smashes into the fairing then over my head.  A fraction of a second either way and it would have failed in its attempt to kill itself, and no, I did not stop to pick it up and eat it as road kill.
Pity really, cos I could have put it down as the most expensive meal I have ever had, £850 damage!

Need a new fairing, headlamp, and wing-mirror, thanks very much. Maybe we should start a campaign to have a pheasant cull, or better still, make the farmers lock them all up. I had heard of this happening before but never expectd it would happen to me, I thought the odds were too long. Just shows you, still, could have been worse, had it hit my head I would have been off the bike and who knows what would have happened.

Ride safe peeps and watch out for depressed pheasants. Smile

  Helloooooooo
Posted by: Stainy - 13-10-13, 12:05 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (2)

Morning all,
I've just purchased a 2009 FZ1S and thought I'd pop in and say hello. I still have a 1200s Bandit, so they'll be competing for my affection over the winter (as I try to give the FZ1S the love it clearly hasn't had in its life so far). The winner will get to stay with me next year and for the foreseeable future  Smile
Hopefully, you lot are a friendly bunch and can give me loads of hints on ownership  Big Grin

  Changed my suspenders
Posted by: bigfootpete - 13-10-13, 11:07 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (6)

Right, after owning an Ohlins rear shock for nearly a year I finally got around to fitting it on Sat - with the help of a mate with all the tools you might need
and then some!

But what an arsey job for something that should be easy - how the hell are you supposed to get to the top nut on the right hand side with an ordinary spanner???
A 1/4" ratchet with flexi head came in very handy for that one.

Also ended up fitting the original dog-bones as we couldn't work out how to compress the shock to bring the rocker up higher so we could connect the
shorter dog-bones. Putting a jack under the rocker to lift it just pushed the whole bike up, it may have worked if someone sat on the bike but it wasn't
that stable with the jack only supporting the rocker.

And finally, had to use a longer bolt on the rear footpeg to enable us to bolt the compression damping adjustment knob on.

That took about 3 1/2 hours with breaks - still, saved probably £100 paying a mechanic to do the job.

  Fairings Screen

Is there a touring screen available for the FZS600? I have only seen standard and a double bubble screen available so far and wondered if there were an alterative somewhere.. Or I may have to do a little home built modification..

  Newbie from Bournemouth
Posted by: trpFZS1 - 12-10-13, 10:44 PM - Forum: Introduction - Replies (8)

Hi, I'm Richard from Bournemouth and the  owner of a gen 1 Fazer 1000 which I have owned for a month or so now.  I have had various bikes over the years and really like this bike and appreciate its versatility. I have been looking at this forum for a few weeks now and I can see that there is a huge amount of knowledge available from it's members and loads of improvements that can be made to my bike. I bumped into Loz at Crescents today (hi Loz) which made me think I that I should introduce myself on the forum. My bike pic is attached. Cheers[Image: zusuduta.jpg]

  Racing crash last week
Posted by: Chillum - 12-10-13, 09:15 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

I was watching the BSB etc on Eurosport last Sunday and there was a rider who crashed and hit his head against the barrier.

I'm trying to find out if he's ok, but the recording is deleted and I can't remember the riders name or which race he was in. Can anyone remember?

  front forks chatter?
Posted by: savvy - 12-10-13, 08:27 PM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Help please/ I went to Glasson today and met a few fellow foccers. Great ride and people but noticed from the forks, over broken tarmac (read holes) although shallow the forks seemed to chatter. That I am afraid is the only way to describe it.It seems to bang at the extent of the forks. I am only lightweight and don't think think the springing is light but was wondering if it could be the oil? not sure what is in as only just got the bike. Would it be best to go standard or what would anyone care to recommend please.
Many thanks Barrie
