Hi Everyone, this is my first time on this forum and hoping to get some good advice. i did a search in the forum but couldn't find a direct answer, so here it goes:
Bike : 2009, FZ6A, 19K miles on the clock
Issue: Ignition switch wouldn't work properly as i turn the key ON, sometimes it lights up the dials on the dash, and all works fine but half of the time i get blank dials on the dash. fault started only 4 weeks back. first i though it was the batteries but engine fires up ok, no issues once the ignition key is on..
i took it to a yamaha service today and the guy fiddled around with the key and problem turns out to be ignition switch as once the key is in and it is not working he ever so slightly moves the key to a biting position to left and dials are back on, but if you move it slightly from that point dials are dead nothing shown on it and of course wont start.
they quoted me £862 to change all including ECU, + labour cost so going up to nearly £1000!
I tried the spare key, but it also didnt solve the issue.
Help:
- Can i still ride my bike as once it gets started, or will it cut the engine as i am on the bike riding and cause an accident- :eek
- is there anyone else had similar issue
- Cost is too high for me , any other fixes recommended ?
thanks
Huso

| Spark plug not grounded? |

Hello All
Whenever I try to start my bike I turn it on, thumb the starter, and the engine will turn over but may or may not start. If it does I have to turn it off and back on and try again. Using a volt meter I checked the coils positive terminal and it gets a steady 10.5v and drips a bit when thumbing the starter. On the negative terminal it starts at 10.3v and drops a little more to 8.6v around. Doesn't that mean the coils are working? Sometimes during testing the bike would start and sometimes it wouldn't but the voltages were always the same. Could my spark plugs just not being grounding?
Thanks

| Help me lube my speedo drive |

Just bought a new speedo drive (the internal ceramic part) because the old one was broken, as they all seem to end up.
The old one was covered in a thick browny paste, not sure what that is - just wondered what lubricant/grease it needs, anybody know?
Looked in Haynes but drew a blank :\
Thanks

Just started to stock this at work (Oxford Products). Spent all day yesterday looking through it (so did bugger all work :lol ). As well as having a lot of the most obvious ones (Snake Pass, Cat and Fiddle, Kyle of Loch Alsh road (A87?), A44 to Aber etc, it gives some good pointers as to where to ride if you're not on home ground, as well as recommending some biker meeting places, good hotels and restaurants etc. Even if you don't plan to ride the exact given routes, it gives some good ideas of where to head for. Recommended.

Reading the foreword, the author says about when discussing it with the editor of Ride magazine.
"Yeah but how are we going to know which are the best routes, which ones to leave out?"
"Well, you'll just have to go and ride them all"
I want that job!!!! :lol
Best biking roads of Europe, anyone? Me, me, me!!! :lol

Has any folks on here traveled through Sumatra and Java on a motorcycle?
The usual guide books only seem to list touristy places to see and stay at and of course they only advise on the quickest routes rather than the more exiting roads and tracks accross mountains etc. There is so little information on these places, not much even on Horizons Unlimited etc.
A long shot this, but has anyone here done it?
I'm flying to Malaysia early next year and want to ride down to Bali
