Just been wondering whether or not it's worth allowing myself to be dragged a bit further into the modern age for my planned Euro tour. I've read quite a lot on how sat nav would be especially handy when arriving in larger towns/cities to help find hotel locations etc. Also, there's a last-minute bookings site that might be useful, so internet could also be very helpful (plus staying in touch on the forums I use). Not to mention keeping track of the weather to help with contingency planning on the fly.

Soooo, what kind of system should I be looking at? I really have very little experience of all this gadgetry, even my current mobile phone is something from the dark ages! What kind of cost? (this could well be the point which decides for me which system I might plump for, or indeed, whether I get anything at all). If it means more than one unit, I'll probably give it a miss entirely. If it means replacing my current mobile, I'll consider it, but also would want to keep any monthly payments pretty low.

If answering, please bear in mind you're talking to a gadget-dimwit, terminology needs to be basic or explained!

Cheers

Nick

  A259
Posted by: wickedmonkey - 27-12-13, 10:54 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (23)

Went to see my mum and sister yesterday. To get there I have to go along the A259 and it was a ride that made me anxious as hell. On the way there in the morning I had the sun blinding me at crucial moments. On the way back it was pitch dark and I had car headlight glare being exaggerated by droplets of crap on my visor. Add to that Fazer headlights that light up the curb beautifully but not much of the road in front...

Anyone who knows the A259 will know the corners that snake and zigzag -- sometimes turning on a pin by 270 degrees. It was mentioned by Ross Noble in MCN latest issue as on of the best to ride in the UK partly because of these corners. But, bare in mind that I've only been riding since August and you'll realise why I was so relieved to have gotten home in one piece and why my shoulders were aching from stress!

Still, I suppose every cloud has a Silverstone lining and I learnt that I need to relax under stress (the machine doesn't respond well to a stiff rider and I nearly lost it on a shallow corner because I had become so tense. I ended up doing a strange kind of cross-steer whilst reciting Hail Marys).

I lived to tell the tale though and my Mum's dinner was worth it.

Just a quick one my 2 1/2 year engagement is over (great Xmas present) but I took a loan out for her bike to go to and fro from work, can I get it transferred to her as she already was making payments to me for it?

http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/how_to_become_a_donor/

I had registered last week, never really gave it much thought before but after watching anothers agony of waiting in a tv show last week gave me the kick up the arse to try and help should the worst happen.

Anyway, nice to see the link up on here under the search bar of the site :thumbup

  Breaking gold X-reg FZS600
Posted by: Wornoutsidis - 26-12-13, 05:58 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (18)

Good evening Ladies and Gents,

As per above, I am breaking an x-reg FZS600 that has been standing for far too long. Most parts are available in various degrees of cosmetic condition. Only fault worthy of note is that 2nd gear does not engage.

What I was hoping to do is leave this post here for a while and form a list of parts desired by you good people, then strip the bike in one go.

FYI bike is in Watford.

Any questions , queries or requests for pictures will be catered for at the earliest opportunity!

Cheers ,

WOS

  Rear brake bleed..
Posted by: johna6968 - 26-12-13, 04:45 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (4)

Merry Xmas to all..

Just fitted new set of rear pads to my low mileage 02 Boxeye.. Cleaned and lubricated the Pistons (sticking pistons I take it was the demise of the original set of brake pads), plenty copperslip and all back together,  working a treat  Smile .. Will be changing fluid soon. Im sure this has been asked before but is there a particular order to bleed the 2 rear caliper bleed nipples?..  Had a few bikes that had this set up but never confirmed if there is a right order or way to bleed the rear for the best..

Thanks in advance John

Any north west foccers know how to fit an o ring chain with the rivet tool?
Posted by: Fizzy Pies - 26-12-13, 04:39 PM - Forum: Events, Meets, Ride outs etc - Replies (11)

I'd sooner buy the tool and have someone teach me and know for life rather than keep paying a mechanic after all i have two hands like he does.

Does anyone know how to use them that would teach me, can pay in bacon butties, brews and banta?

thanks
