  Replacing selector forks and drum
Posted by: Dcock - 13-05-14, 08:14 PM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (10)

Hi, i have a 1998 fzs600 and since i have had the bike it has been very clunky/sometimes grinds/crunches when going from 1st to second and from second to third. Also there is significant whining noise while in second gear. Does this sound likely to be a bent selector fork or worn drum? If so i heard that these can be replaced with the engine still in the frame with the sump removed and clutch out. I replaced the cam chain on this bike and fork oil/seals etc so feel confident i could do this job. Any ideas on what it could be or info about replacing the selector forks would be appreciated.

Cheers, Dan

  Arai Tour x4 price fix?
Posted by: chr999chr - 13-05-14, 04:21 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

The brother has asked me to see if i can find a deal on a Arai tour x4. He is not very good at the internet thingy.

So i embarked on a search for a Arai Tour x 4 in mission black. After countless minutes i came to the conclusion that Arai must be telling the dealers not to discount their Tour X helmets. Every online site has the price fixed at £499 and not a penny less.

I have checked the usual big sites that came up on a google search, as a challange can anyone find a Tour x 4 Mission black or any multicolour for less than £499 which is  :eek  for a helmet anyway.

  For Sale: 2008 R1 black 4900 miles
Posted by: FlashBack - 13-05-14, 12:41 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (1)

Hi all, I have for sale one black R1 2008 '08' plate (2008 model) with less than 5000 miles on the clock. Full Yamaha service history, totally standard except for tail tidy including smaller rear indicators. One owner since new, garaged since new. Next MOT due May 2015, tax expires March 2015. £6,000 ono. Condition is very good, wouldn't say excellent or mint as there are some signs of slight weathering to certain metal parts but this is purely cosmetic. One of the xenons has a crack through it but I am assured by 2 separate Yam dealers and 3 MOTs that this does not affect the lights or vision. I was advised to leave it alone so I have done. Please pm me if you want more info or have any questions.

In case you were wondering why I'm selling, I've had it for 6 years and I just don't use it so decided to part ways and go back to my MkII Fazer 6 full time.

Pictures to follow ... or can email separately if you're interested.

Cheers
Ivi

Picture added ... best I can do until I get home and take some more recent ones. Also has a Renthal rack added since new to give the missus something to hold onto.

  Bench Grinder
Posted by: hightower - 13-05-14, 11:27 AM - Forum: General - Replies (18)

I'm trying to decide whether a bench grinder (with a brass wheel addition) would be a worthwhile investment for my garage. I'm just looking at a budget model from toolstation, costing about £30 in total.

I've been told a bench grinder is good to clean corrosion on my brake pad pins and anti-squeal shims. But what other uses would it have?

I'm restoring an '82 Kwak as well this summer, and just trying to figure out if it would be a useful tool to have.

  Tracking System
Posted by: Devic - 13-05-14, 11:00 AM - Forum: General - Replies (14)

Just a quick enquiry about something I want but so much to choose from decided to see if anyone else had any ideas or used something similar.

I basically want something that tracks and logs my journeys so GPS based and so far looked at GPS tracking systems and some iPhone apps. I found that most of the units can be used from anything from tracking your cat to a vehicle but they all use sim cards so cost money, although that is only when you phone them for a live update on location mainly. As for the iPhone apps there did seem to be a few to choose from but then I don't want to end up with one that flattens the battery all the time.

Did see one for a bicycle which seemed fairly good.

Basically just need something that uses something like a memory card and logs the time, date and route that I can download to my computer so there is a record of where the bike has been at any given time.

Any suggestions?
