Hi, my name is James and I've just acquired a 2003 FZS 600 and hope to pick your brains occasionally as most of my experience is with old BSAs.

One of my neighbours used to use it to commute to London but with the ULEZ charges for entering central London it was no longer viable to use so he literally gave it to me! She has done 41K and had stood in his drive for at least a year unused. The battery was beyond recovering so I popped in a new one, changed the oil and filter and to my surprise she started straight away. I booked her in for an MOT to see if there were any major issues, she failed on no headlights and a warped rear disc. The headlight problem was down to a poor earth and quickly solved however the rear disc was more of a battle, getting the bolts out was a major headache. With a lot of heat and patience I got half out, two more came out when I welded a bar to them but the final one sheared. In the end I had to drill it out using a pillar drill and an end mill, luckily the thread survived after a clean up with a tap.

Now all legal and back on the road.

After an OEM silencer, but in A1 condition. I painted mine but its starting to peel, so if i can pick a mint one up it will save me the hassle of getting it ceramic coated.

  Carburettor Question......

A question for the FOC-U fonts of knowledge.

Gen 1 1000 FZS. Pilot Air Screw setting. In both the Good Book of little fibs (Haynes!) and the genuine Yamaha service manual, the pilot air screws are set at 2.0 turns out. Have I seen on here that 3.0 is recommended and if so why?
I've currently got mine set to 3.0 and it seems very rich and will start from cold with no choke.

Answers please, not on a postcard  :rollin :rollin

I'm not really a football fan these days, got put off years ago, mainly by the cost.  Taking my lads to a game, 10yrs ago would costs £150 easy.

One of the main arguments by UK supporters against this, is it destroys, local identities, history etc.

To me it clearly demonstrates, UK supporters really don't factor any longer and if they never paid another penny in season tickets or gate money it wouldn't matter.  Premiership Clubs make more money with world TV rights and sales of shirts/kits memorabilia, than ever they do in the UK.

Like much of sport nowadays, it's not really about the sport it's just about money, making more money!

Hello all. Just joined thought would say hell

I’m Mike. Had a Gen1 Fazer 1000 for a month now after my bike being stolen and subsequently crashed. Needed a bike quick so got a Bandit 600 on a whim and cheap. Needed more work than described so put that to one side after missing couple days work and brought a Fazer 1000 that popped up. Now I will admit I overpaid and it’s bit of a heap but I needed something that’s was good to go. So I grabbed it. This is how it looks currently

Previous owner had sprayed everything black. Engine, exhaust , rearsets pillion peg hangers rad covers carbs etc etc including stainless rad guard and carbon rear hugger which was painted black with a paint brush  :rolleyes

Since getting it I’ve added motografix to cover some marks and take eye away from the difference red nose cone.
Had a lextek link pipe and the stupid stubby they do which had been fitted badly and fouled the swingarm. Changed to a delkevic off the bandit then just got this scorpion can and link pipe that on it now. Gradually starting to de black the bike. Replaced the powerbronze double bubble screen with a f.fabbri screen.

Want to strip and clean the brakes for good measure, get new lines and maybe discs etc, new tyres shortly too. Exup isn’t working so that needs sorting.

On plus side it’s a good bike. Mrs likes it and I’ve done about 1500 miles on it in last month. It does feel underwhelming compared to my RF900 which is replaced but with exup fixed hopefully it’ll be more what im Used to.

Mike
