FZS600 Fazer / Parts available for Fazer 600
« on: 18 April 2013, 10:18:27 am »
With sad regret, I am parting company with my Fazer 600 '03 Foxeye model. This bike was becoming a black hole for puring money into and the final straw came on the weekend were serious engine problems developed and I have decided not to put anymore money into it and move it on.

The upshot is that a breaker bought it off me and will be collecting the bike off me Monday or Tuesday next week. So there will be parts available from him but in the meantime you could contact him and book stuff in advance. He sells his stuff very reasonable and he has good postage costs to the UK. I have dealt with him on numerous occasions over the years and he is a sound chap who don't believe in screwing a person over, and who is a biker himself.

The breaker is Glen Stynes, Fahy Hill, Rhode, Co. Offally, Ireland. Tel +353 87 0955557 email: stynesgp08@eircom.net

Parts that I would see that may be of interest to some guys here would be:

  • Fazer 1000 rear caliper with pads that have only 2k up on them. The caliper has been filed down on the head already to fit straight on the Fazer 600
  • Rear and front EBC discs with only 2k up on them.
  • Clocks and bodywork all in good nick.
  • Camchain tensioner with only 2k up on it.
  • Chain and sprockets with only 2k up on them.
  • Stainless downpipes in excellent nick, painted in black but can be nitromors off.
  • Giv monorack

Cheers guys!!

FZS600 Fazer / Having a BBQue again!
« on: 05 April 2013, 06:36:17 pm »
....paint on my Fazer...that is!!

As the Fazer is my all year round hack, I decided (like my last Bandit 600) that I couldn't be bothered to keep on top of all the shiney bits from rusting or getting pitted during winter. So my solution as always, is to sort of "half rat it" and paint all my shiney bits black!!

I also lost a bit of weight and halfed my end can too!!

Thanks for Looking!!!  8)

FZS600 Fazer / Handlebar Clamp Risers.....
« on: 25 March 2013, 10:15:01 am »
Bought these for my Renthal Flat bars just to give more clearance at the fairing and the tank. The product will raise your bars by 3 cms. They cost £20

I bought them on ebay but they are not listed there now. The company is a bike shop called Moto Tempo in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. www.mototempo.co.uk.

The product is made by a company called Bike it.co.uk

First Impressions:

1. Well made product.
2. Fits Spot on. Slight negative would be that the product might be a universal clamp, so it's not flush fitting around the clamp area. The half-moon area is spot on and flush, though. When painted black to match the rest of my handlebar area, this won't be too noticable.
3. As you will see from the photos, it gives excellent clearance both on the fairing and on the tank. It also made the riding position more comfortable for me.
4. It also helps further to keep your throttle, clutch cable, and front brake hose away from the dash area.
5. Will enhance comfortability for touring to those with standard bars. So I would add a set to my kit if I tour with my bike or if I did high mileage day to day. They can be easily swapped back to the originals for those days that you want a sportier feel on the track.

So outside them not being totally flush fitting....and excellent product IMO.

I'll send the photos in two posts. Post one will have the product, the before and after clutch lever clearance, and tank clearance photos. Post two will have two shots of the clamps close up and an overall photo of the bars.

FZS600 Fazer / Fender Extender......
« on: 22 March 2013, 08:39:00 am »
...got mine yesterday just in time for the monsoon over here!! Put one on my Bandit 12 with a bellypan 10 years ago and it's amazing what crap you keep off your pipes.

The lads from Skidmarz had a trade stall at a big bike show in Dublin at the start of the year. So instead of wasting my money on a "I wuz here" tee-shirt, I invested my money on something more useful. They sent it over from the UK when they got back, and costed a very reasonable €20 including postage.

...and as a bonus, for some strange reason my front midguard was already drilled with two holes either side to accept the extender. It looked as if this (probably aftermarket) fender was designed this way as the distance between the holes were very accurate and it was very professionally done. Saved me a bit of bother, anyway.

Here's a piccie...........

Here's the story so far......

Bike running sweet except for a little hesitation at times at extreme low revs (1000-1500rpm). More than likely its slightly blocked pilot jets. Not wanting to take out the carbs as the problem isn't that major, I was looking at maybe an easier softer solution like buying something to flush through with the fuel that might dislodge the gremlins and do the trick. :2guns :look

I was looking at some STP products in a local car accessory shop, and sort of found something that I thought might be worth a bash. But I had to decide weather to pick their standard "red bottle" fuel cleaner (€9) that you apply at every fill up, or their most expensive high strength complete fuel system cleaner & maintenance (€22) that is applied at every oil change. Since you mix a bottle of the high strength complete fuel system cleaner with about 60lts of fuel, you will have to use one bottle over 3 fill-ups approx, so its the equivalent of using 3 x €9 worth of the standard fuel cleaner anyway.

The upshot is that even though i'm sceptical about such products....its seemed to have actually worked!! After my 2nd fill-up, I noticed that the bike is running even more sweet now and that the low down hesitation seems to be gone. Here is a photo of the product I bought, and there is a link as to the different strength that each product has. The product I bought has the highest strength...hence I suppose the highest strength price too!

But warning....Try it at your own risk and at your own loss if it don't work for you. I'm only sharing my experience with it and I am not advocating anyone to go out and purchase it. But after my experience, I personally think it is well worth for me to do it maybe every 2 oil changes when my plugs and filter are due, just to keep on top of the fuel system so that it is clean and lubed on a fairly regular basis.

Your thoughts?........................

FZS600 Fazer / A little paint touch up today
« on: 15 March 2013, 10:12:59 am »
My brushed metal polished swing arm was starting to get grubby and I didn't like it anyway on the bike so I sprayed it black. I also did the engine and the yoke area after buying a set of straight black renthals. Did my brake and clutch lever which came up well too. Ooohh...I't getting me closer to purchasing that pipewerx black end can!!!

I used "Rust-oleaum" BBQ black for a more satin type finish.

FZS600 Fazer / My simple Front Sprocket Fix
« on: 25 February 2013, 04:10:23 pm »
Fitted a new set of chain and sprockets last week and fitted the new nut with thread lock. When torqing the nut up, I felt that after torqing carefully up to about 60nm of pressure that the nut was in danger of going to strip from the shaft. So I left it at that and didn't dare to push it any further. But that left me still a bit paranoid about even the new nut working itself free.

I got a DID chain and JTS (I think) sprockets from M&P. The front had holes drilled into it so I did a McGyver and looped some wire through the holes and criss-crossed it over the nut. It would take excessive force outwards from the shaft to break this wire and force the nut off. I don't think there is that force there from my own experience. My front sprocket stayed on without a nut at all for over 1,200 (known) miles from just mere rust, balance, and with the grace of God!!

So I don't think the sprocket pushed the nut off. I think these nuts just sometimes work open for whatever reason and just vibrate off the shaft rather than any excessive force pushing them off. So the wire should be secure enough and might help to give those with a similar front sprocket a bit of added peace of mind without having to do a big DIY engineering job..

Heres a piccie of my McGyver for those who have a similar type sprocket.

FZS600 Fazer / Quick Question about Fork Oil
« on: 18 January 2013, 11:41:57 am »
What amount did you guys put into your fork legs when using the heavier 15w grade oil? Is it the same as the specs or did you put less?

Cheers in advance,
Packie

FZS600 Fazer / Front Fork Question
« on: 12 January 2013, 09:41:31 am »
I have the 02 Foxeye model with the adjuster caps. The stanctions are badly pitted on one fork and could go on the other fork down the road. I picked up a mint and complete pair of forks, but for the older model fazer. Rather than changing stanctions, it would be a lot easier to just plonk these new forks in. Question is...can the adjuster caps be made to work on the older forks without much hassle also?

FZS600 Fazer / A question about FZS600 engine noise.....
« on: 10 January 2013, 01:01:25 pm »
My engine seems to emit noises that are more noticeable from the left hand side when you are sitting on the bike. It's noticeable on cold starts until it really warms up. When you pull in the clutch, the noise goes instantly, or it will go eventually after 20-30 mins of driving after the bike is really heated up.

It also went away after a carb sync. Unfortunatley, the carbs were out not long after the sync and the noise is back again, so the carbs may be out again after being disturbed. Anyway...question is, is this a normal trait with the FZS 600? The valves are perfect and the camchain and tensioner were replace recently. The noise was there before and after the camchain change and it doesn't sound anyway near like a camchain problem anyway. It sounds more like something going on in the clutch especially when it goes away instantly when you pull in the clutch even a little.

Your thouoghts please...............

FZS600 Fazer / Will a FZS 400 right side Foot Hanger fit on the 600??
« on: 10 January 2013, 12:50:15 pm »
I cracked the original and I have no back brake as a result. There is a FZR 400 breaking in the same country and it would mean I won't have to go overseas (on ebay) and save on a courier which is nearly the price of the hanger itself!  :eek

Thanks in advance,
Pakie
