Aldi are doing some ski wear and I was looking at the "100% Merino wool" base layers - here https://www.aldi.co.uk/c/specialbuys/dat...lar&page=0 but not sure if £17.99 for a short / £19.99 Long sleeve top are good prices. Also wondering if it is actual Merino wool - remembering faux wagu beef at Asda or something or was it Aldi. Faux because it was not "full blown" wagu but was a mix breed.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
I bought the merino base layers that were on offer a month or so ago, and they're as good as the Mountain Warehouse ones I have that were much more expensive.

Thanks for the info, I will get one then I think. I dont know anything about the "names" in walking/ climbing gear but think 50% of the cost is just for the name.

Still it's better than "fly blown" wagu

I’ve got Icebreaker tops and long johns. They are top notch but yeah they have built their brand status and know how to charge. I use em for hill walking and on the bike.
They come in different weights, light, medium and heavy. They are 100% pure merino. Unlike other wools it’s really nice against your skin. It’s not the most breathable stuff, and it can get sopping wet with your sweat but still stays warm – though that isn’t a problem on the bike.
I’ve also got smart wool socks, another big-name merino wool brand.
The stuff ain’t cheap. But it does last years – though sometimes the socks go hard with repeated washing. So I don’t wash them too often, and always as wool at low temp.
Nice thing about pure merino is you can sweat like a pig in it, wear it day after day and it doesn’t smell bad.
Dunno what the Aldi stuff will be like. But you will find bargains in Icebreaker and Smartwool come the spring.
Taken on Beinn Liath Mhor at the end of march this year.
Standing near 876 spot height on the map and about to make my way along the ridge to the summit marked 926 on the map, before descending down to Coire Lair. A good bit of the descent I did sliding downhill on ma bum. Saved a bit of walking!
Great pic. We stayed on Seil island one year in early April and there was snow still on the mountain tops, but nothing like that I don't think.
The furthest I got this summer was Drumnadrochit. Was heading for Inverness at the time, but ran out of time because of spending too long looking round the fascinating Highland Museum at Fort William in the morning.
Climbed to the summit of Ben Nevis which was fun, but tough going in places. I always find the descents harder than the asscents. Really gets me on the ankles :'( .
Gorgeous country.

Not checked out Seil Island yet. Keep meaning too.

Not been up Ben Nevis yet. Yup sometimes coming down is harder than going up. It’s the knees with me. Though my ankles tire too – in fact everything starts going at the end of a long walk.
I use poles pretty much all the time. I only really put them away if I need to use my hands, or it’s winter and I need to carry or use my axe.
Poles are kinda like 4wd going uphill. They steady you over rough ground, great for river and burn crossings, plus great for saving you when you slip.
Cheers.
Another one from that week. Was a good week that. Another Skye hill - Beinn na Caillich. Marsco and Beinn na Caillich arn't big hills (classed as Grahams) but they are spectacular. Steep little buggers though.
Oh yeah full heavy weight Merino base layer on that week. Once near the summits 2 breathable t-shirts, fleece, insulated jacket plus wind poof jacket and the usual gloves hat and fleece buff round ma neck etc etc. Great week but one foccing cold week. :lol
great photos feller. that must be summat else, being there for real.
my richa one piece saved my life today, biblical rain both on the way to Bristol thru wales and coming home in the dark and mist :'( bloody winter...amd its only just starting..
just so you're aware, Aldi only go upto XL in their size range. I'm usually XL but find their stuff on the smaller size, looked at a jacket once but was not to be :'(

Hmmm smaller you say. I am after a small but the smallest is medium - so it might be ok then. I am a perfect size 10 in Womans clothing :eek - (standby fazersharp :lol ) .So I was going to get the womans size 10 roll neck but the picture on the box shows the neck as being about twice as long as the mens version and therefore would be too bulky under my leather.
Here pictures you can see the un-rolled insert picture but even comparing the rolled version picture you can see that the womans neck is bigger.
Can you return these if they do not fit
