DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor?
#1
So, finally getting around to changing my tyres (I bought the things MONTHS ago and haven't got round to it).

Will I be able to pop the bead in with a footpump (actually have a standey-upee-hand one but can't remember what it's called!) or will I need a compressor?

Cheers

The chances of getting tyres to seat with a footpump are pretty close to zero imho.
The only time I tried to change tyres myself I ended up visiting four different garage forecourts before finding one with an air supply that delivered fast enough.

Hm, that's what I feared.  Ta.

Starting to wish I'd just got the garage to do it TBH  :\

The pump you describe is a stirrup pump. Quite popular with serious pedal cyclists.
Pretty well zero chance of seating a motorbike tire with it.
There was an interesting video posted on here recently using "easy start", or some such flammable spray, and a lighter to seat the tire, but I think I'll stick with the compressor.

The good old BT21's.  I know they're old hat, but I've always got on fine with them in 13 years of riding Fazers and get good wear.  But then I ride like an old man  :lol

Aldi had some cheap compressors on sale along with the tyre inflator last week, probably some left if you look around.

Was asking because the PR4 are hard to seat and the PR3 are only a little easier. Never had any issue seating BT21s.
Bt21s are old hat now and perfect for a fellow riding like an old man  :lol :lol

even with a compressor take the valve core out and sometimes you have to put a ratchet strap round the tyre, you could try this with a hand pump or even get a load of mates with hand pumps and join them together or just pay the £15 to have it fitted and balanced?
PS I bought my compressor from toolstation £99, but still have get my tyres from a bike garage, by the time you pay delivery and fitting the work out about the price.
