DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor? - Andy Clap - 19-03-15 So, finally getting around to changing my tyres (I bought the things MONTHS ago and haven't got round to it). Will I be able to pop the bead in with a footpump (actually have a standey-upee-hand one but can't remember what it's called!) or will I need a compressor? Cheers Re: DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor? - Fazerider - 19-03-15 The chances of getting tyres to seat with a footpump are pretty close to zero imho. The only time I tried to change tyres myself I ended up visiting four different garage forecourts before finding one with an air supply that delivered fast enough. Re: DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor? - Andy Clap - 19-03-15 Hm, that's what I feared. Ta. Starting to wish I'd just got the garage to do it TBH :\ Re: DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor? - limax2 - 19-03-15 (19-03-15, 06:55 PM)Andy Clap link Wrote: Will I be able to pop the bead in with a footpump (actually have a standey-upee-hand one but can't remember what it's called!) or will I need a compressor? The pump you describe is a stirrup pump. Quite popular with serious pedal cyclists. Pretty well zero chance of seating a motorbike tire with it. There was an interesting video posted on here recently using "easy start", or some such flammable spray, and a lighter to seat the tire, but I think I'll stick with the compressor. Re: DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor? - unfazed - 19-03-15 What make/name of tyre are you putting on? I know they're old hat, but I've always got on fine with them in 13 years of riding Fazers and get good wear. But then I ride like an old man :lol Re: DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor? - Billy Balthorpe - 19-03-15 Aldi had some cheap compressors on sale along with the tyre inflator last week, probably some left if you look around. Bt21s are old hat now and perfect for a fellow riding like an old man :lol :lol Re: DIY Tyre Change - Need Compressor? - chaz - 20-03-15 even with a compressor take the valve core out and sometimes you have to put a ratchet strap round the tyre, you could try this with a hand pump or even get a load of mates with hand pumps and join them together or just pay the £15 to have it fitted and balanced? PS I bought my compressor from toolstation £99, but still have get my tyres from a bike garage, by the time you pay delivery and fitting the work out about the price.
