Black is Black

Ok not the song....I've just bought a new old stock Yamaha hugger for my gen1. The problem is they only had one in silver, so I thought I'd give it a quick rough up with scotch bright, a coat of grey primer and then a coat of black from the motor factors. Have I missed anything or is this a plan?

Think I'd fit it first .. just to be sure I had not got any hole drilling mods to do .. then remove and paint as required  :\

Sand down the primer with something very fine (wet 1200 grit) and dry it well before putting the top coat on.  A couple of coats of top coat, then sand again with the 1200 grit before giving it a coat or two of clear acrylic lacquer.

Don't forget you need plastic paint, or paint suitable for plastic. (special stuff)

Not necessarily.  Standard acrylic spray paint is flexible enough as long as the surface is keyed properly.

Yes, sand the hugger with more than scotchbrite, although it gives a mechanical key, you need to be a bit more harsh as i assume the hugger is lacquered which you need to get rid of. So 800 grit or so, just be careful on pointy bits.

Just buy a black one!  Must be millions floating around and the manual effort for re-spray seems a bit pointless.

I have a carbon look one.  Better than gloss black as it doesn't show the dirt / scratches so bad.

One coat adhesive stuff, three coats primer, two coats black, drying overnight.......one more coat of black and then lacquer to finish off..
