Black is Black - Andy FZS - 19-03-14 Ok not the song....I've just bought a new old stock Yamaha hugger for my gen1. The problem is they only had one in silver, so I thought I'd give it a quick rough up with scotch bright, a coat of grey primer and then a coat of black from the motor factors. Have I missed anything or is this a plan? Andy Re: Black is Black - purplebear7 - 19-03-14 Think I'd fit it first .. just to be sure I had not got any hole drilling mods to do .. then remove and paint as required :\ Stay Safe ![]() Re: Black is Black - rustyrider - 19-03-14 Sand down the primer with something very fine (wet 1200 grit) and dry it well before putting the top coat on. A couple of coats of top coat, then sand again with the 1200 grit before giving it a coat or two of clear acrylic lacquer. Re: Black is Black - Andy FZS - 19-03-14 Ah so should I paint the bike to make the hugger then ![]() Re: Black is Black - rayburn600 - 19-03-14 Have I missed anything or is this a plan? Yes Don't forget you need plastic paint, or paint suitable for plastic. (special stuff) Re: Black is Black - rustyrider - 19-03-14 Not necessarily. Standard acrylic spray paint is flexible enough as long as the surface is keyed properly. Re: Black is Black - Skippernick - 19-03-14 Yes, sand the hugger with more than scotchbrite, although it gives a mechanical key, you need to be a bit more harsh as i assume the hugger is lacquered which you need to get rid of. So 800 grit or so, just be careful on pointy bits. Re: Black is Black - alan sherman - 21-03-14 Just buy a black one! Must be millions floating around and the manual effort for re-spray seems a bit pointless. I have a carbon look one. Better than gloss black as it doesn't show the dirt / scratches so bad.
