started the thou up this morning and left it running at 2000rpm on choke and noticed a rattle coming from the exup valve, knocked the choke off and it stopped, just rattles at 2000....serviced and greased earlier in the year and no problems.......so how often do you service/grease the valve or do i have another problem ?
I had the same a little while ago, I adjusted the cables located on the right hand side of the tank to take out the slack and the rattle disappeared. Maybe worth a try.
cheers dazza.....greased and adjusted at the begining of the year, not sure of mileage this year but its probably more than i think.had a big trip to john o groats in the summer.2500 miles in 10 days ..plus the lofo rides and a few others...would`nt surprise me if it were 8/9000 miles..........i`ll give it another service, fitted stainless bolts last time so should come apart easy

gave the mighty thou a clean this morning and decided to look at the exup valve to see if i could find the rattle...everything came apart easy thanks to the copper grease and stainless bolts i fitted in the spring ...re-assembled using copper grease and checked tension of the cables...all fine as i expected as i had adjusted in the spring...so every thing back together and give it a go.......rattle still there :\ ....just at 2000 rpm....its diffacult to hold the throttle at 2000 and get down low enough to hear where its coming from so...i removed the valve again and held a bit of hard foam over the hole and started it up....rattle still there,so not the valve :rolleyes .....thought i check the top of the down pipes where they pass under the engine to see if any stones were rattling about under there...no stones but i did find this................
no not the 50p :rolleyes :rolleyes .....the metal spacer, started it up and all nice and quiet ......so,my next question.........where does the spacer go ......looks like engine mounting spacer but cant see any missing :\
mmmm...just had a look at that...is`nt that the bush , one each end ? was thinking that was the problem before i stripped it but both bushes are fine ....the spacer i found is a thicked walled jobbie, thats why iam thinking engine mounting spacer......but cant see how it made its way onto the top of the downpipes :\
Pretty sure what you've pictured is the collar (9) which is drawn a little out of proportion on the diagram. Hmm. Odd. Is your Exup in bits still? Perhaps post a picture of the other collars as well? I've just put mine back together this morning and cert the collars looked like the photo you've posted..
Someone sent me a postcard picture of the earth. On the back it said, "Wish you were here."

It's an engine mount spacer. It's common when fitting crash bungs / belly pan the spacer that sits inside the rubber gets pushed out when refitting mounting bolts and ends up sitting on the downpipes. You won't notice it missing because when engine mounting bolts put back in you won't notice it's not there.

On second thoughts - does look a bit big to be the collar, nick's prob correct..
