Hi - On my '98 FZS600 I have an intermittent starting issue, sometimes it will start straight away on the button (hot or cold) and other times there is just a clicking noise, If I move (rock) the bike forwards or back whilst in gear it will then usually start on the starter again (not always, sometimes takes a few "rocks"), it can always be jump started if I happen to be on a hill
It has just had a brand new battery fitted so does anyone have an idea of what else may be causing this?
It's going into my local garage for service next week and they will look at it and are happy for me to supply parts (eBay) and they will fit for me, just wondered what I should be looking for or if anyone else has experienced the same? - starter motor, relays etc etc
Any help appreciated

yep....solinoid from me too...its easy to fit you might be able to do it yourself and save a few quids
One, is never going to be enough.....
well i go for starter motor........because our mate says it will fire up if rocked in gear, sooooooooooooo how does that effect a solenoid / relay 18" back from the motor. its obviously something mechanical ( moving ) hence my vote. sowwwwwy :rolleyes

Garage thought it may be starter motor when I popped in with it today, they checked the battery and told me about the "rocking in gear" tip, will try the relay as only a tenner and then starter motor if relay doesn't fix it, they seem quite cheap on the 'bay as well
Thanks for your advice (I like Honda's as well )

Got the bike back from local garage today after servicing it.
On the forums advice I supplied them a S/H solenoid (eBay £3) and S/H starter motor (eBay £16) and the winning answer was..................................Starter Motor!
Posting just in case anyone has similar issues in the future - Many thanks to all those who gave advice, much appreciated, I am sure the solenoid will come in handy some time in the future.

Just saw this thread, I would have said motor too, mate at work had identical symptoms on a Goldwing not long ago.
ive changed my mind now.....i think its the starter motor
