+++ Repling to posts or PM's +++
#1
Exclamation
Morning

So I have noticed a flaw in the way the forum software handles replies. The reply button is quoting the post of pm of the person your replying too, instead of simply replying.

So until I find a fix for this annoyance/bug, I am requesting everyone to -
  • please delete the quote entirely from your reply before typing.
  • or if want some part of the previous post, please edit the quote so it contains only the bare bones of the previous message.

This will alleviate the "green wall of quote" SPAM I am seeing in most threads at the moment.

many thanks

Deleting the quote completely can create confusion (especially if someone else replies while you're writing a reply).
I don't think it's a very good idea to fully delete the quote.

Fair to note:
I'm 100% guilty of full-quotes (fixed that here, in this reply).  Smile

Modern forum software (XenForo and Vanilla to name two) will auto-shrink the quoted text if it is over a certain number of lines.

So, over the years, I've completely forgotten about sniping the irrelevant parts when quoting and replying (started with Usenet when that was needed, all the way through forum emergence and popularity).
Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.

The long and short of it is, its not standard forum behaviour. The old focu forum and other forums I use, don't have auto quote enabled. Its down to the user to include parts or all of the quote 'manually'

For example I didn't need to have the quote of you quoting me from the OP, all that is just SPAM. I Then just left in the part of your message that was relevant to replay to etc.
