when i took it to a engineer he told he it was a M16 x 1.5 taper tap and a 14.5 mm drill bit?
If you have access to an engineering workshop, I believe the proper way is to predrill the bars before tapping them. My pal on the otherhand just wound the tap into the bar and it worked out fine. I paid for the workshop process to the tune of £35 :eek . My pals bars cost him a pint in the pub. :lol Pretty sure the 1.5 x the tap size is the same as 16tpi, but stand to be corrected

Well and truly rinsed for £35...even the receptionist could do that in 5 mins with all the right tackle

Apparently workshop time is £70 an hour, minimum charge half an hour. Should have asked first I suppose, but thought it was a 5 minute job and would be priced accordingly. Lesson learnt, for sure. :'(
