Of course and to a degree no choice

The friggin devil in me though still wants to run the bike as close to the limit as possible, and tbh why not

If you dont like indicators then dont heave them as as far as I know you dont have to have them -- but if you do then they have to be to regs and work
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Unfortunately any motorcycle (there are a few exceptions) built after 86 (I believe) have to have directional indicators. Believe me if they didn't this thread wouldn't exist.
