which is best boxeye or foxeye?  What would you buy?

and what would you buy if you had just £1500, no more

love to know with reasons as relevant,

like are they both as comfortable over long distance

Better headlights on a foxeye, and the largest fuel tank.
Other than the shape of the fairing the bikes are much the same I would've thought, apart from the odd tweak here and there.

It was the look of the boxeye which originally attracted me to the Fazer, but when the opportunity to buy my foxeye came along it was too good a bike to resist regarding condition & mileage etc...I would have thought comfort over a long distance was pretty much the same, but I've not owned a boxeye so can't speak from experience.

To be honest I don't think there's much between them. Personally I'd go for a decent foxeye with low milage, the best you can find for your budget. Improved tank, light, fairing, hazard switch and mirrors. Most parts are interchangeable so plenty of spares about. I'm not biased, I've got a boxeye. To my mind the larger tank is the winning feature, everything else you can change/live with.

It was purely a looks thing for me and I prefer the slightly more sculpted tank and the shape of the foxeye. I feel the box eye's are looking a bit dated but each to their own. I would base your purchase more on mileage, service history, condition etc..

I'd seriously go and have a look at the blue boxeye you commented on in the for sale section. Its a cracking looking bike with a nice custom seat. It's only 2 litres shy of a foxeye tank, its got HID lights which beat the standard foxeye by a mile, heated grips etc and it's had a lot of tlc. Just my 2p tho.

I've had both (now with Foxeye).  There isn't a lot between them, better headlights and bigger tank on Foxeye, as has already been said.

Foxeyes are more expensive, partly as they are newer, partly as they are perceived as better.  You'll get a better condition box eye for the same money, unless you get lucky and find a bargain fox.

If there are two options, choose option 3.
The original Boxeye 1.0 is cheaper and a film icon according to Kill Bill.  Furthermore, it's done a comfirmed 104mph lap @ the TT so has some racing pedigree.
The Boxeye 1.5 (2000-2001) added a larger fuel capacity, preload-adjustable fork caps and better pillion provision (footrest hangers & pillion seat).
Foxeyes appear to be a facelift model just to stay trendy, but with an even bigger fuel tank & better headlights.

IMO the Boxeye 1.5 (such as the one mentioned above) offers the best price/performance combination, providing you don't mind the retro look (which will come back round again in a few years)
