If you convert the speedo (as 7Omly's has been done) the odometer starts to increase in miles instead of km's from the point of the conversion.

Sorry I wasn't very clear on what I was saying, I meant if he tries to change it to be like a U.K. bike by fitting a replacement U.K. style  dial face and removing the corrector, the speedo will be o.k. but it will revert back to recording the distance in kilometres.  I think! Please correct me if i am wrong.

Dismantling the speedo case will often cause more problems than it solves too.

The nightmare continues. I purchased a low mileage (15,500 miles) and they look mint. I followed the advice of foccers and removed the speedo healer. I fitted the replacement clocks and the fun began. As soon as I switched the ignition on the speedo needle went to 28mph. I took the bike for a ride and ridethe speedo responds oddly. I reckon I was doing around 45 but the speedo was showing around 75mph. My bike appears to have an electronic speedo pick up on the left fork leg. Are these Kmh or Mph specific. I beginning to despair. The bike runs perfect in all other respects. Whilst I was removing the speedo healer from the junction box under the tank I found this item with a green wire going into one side and a black/red one coming out of the other but not connected to anything. Any help would be grateful because I now have the better half nagging me about buying a dog, not the canine variety but the bike. Women don't understand that at 15 year old it just might need some maintenance.

Sounds like you have some dodgy clocks.

Had a look at the speedo sensor at the front wheel. It looks okay but could this be the culprit for the 28 mph reading? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I need to get out riding.

I must agree! The clocks may look mint but may have a problem! Obviously if you know someone with a U.K. box eye you could try them on that as proof.  I am doing exactly the same mod and waiting for some U.K. clocks to arrive (I hate the bikes top speed being at around 12'O' clock on the import K.P.H/ M.P.H. speedo!!!!) I will keep you posted as to how I get on.  I am new to this forum but do not despair there are some very knowledgeable and very helpful members on here!  P.S. could powering up the bike/or running it with the healer in damage the U.K. clocks?  Only thinking out loud at reasons that they could have become damaged.

All the healers do is drop a number of the pulses to the speedo. For every (as a example) 1600 rotations of the wheel, only 1000 pulses are passed through to the speedo a a turning 1.6km into 1 mile instead.

But top    ..... on a more serious note, get that wiring sorted, that's a fire waiting to happen, and as already stated it looks like it's the wire for twin headlamp mod.

So in theory I could put a fastin connector on the other end of this and feed it into the H4 right side headlamp connector. I intend to  do this and convert to HOD at the same time. No garage so have to wait for a sunny day to get it done. If I remember I'll take photos when I do it.
The original clocks are back on and are working fine so the clocks looked mint but were obviously faulty. As the wife says I'm a lucky bugger I am.

DONT WAIT TILL A SUNNY DAY, GET THAT SORTED ASAP

Electrical fires aren't funny and you might not have a clue it's even going on fire if your away from your bike as it'll smoulder away.

Doesn't make any difference what connector you put on it at the moment as your going to do all the lights again, I presume your going HID route? But regardless, cover those bare wires, as if they touch anything else you'll do more than 'blow the bloody doors off'
whoever done that job in the first place would scare me and I'd need to check the whole foccin bike if that's his handywork :eek
A bit of insulation tape or even sellotape, till you do it properly, is better than nothing,
but I'd personally take off the cover that's on there,  slide heatshrink over the wires, solder the bare ends together, slide the heatshrink over the soldered ends then heat that, jobs a good one

Whilst I welcome your attitude towards fire safety rest assured as soon as I photographed it I wrapped the exposed wires in electrical insulating tape. I never fit anything to a bike or car with a fuse or if it's heavy current a relay. A short can easily take out your entire wiring loom. Thanks for the advice anyway. It's nice that people still care enough to offer advice.
