Hi Paul cheers for the reply I've had some advice since I posted all I want is a little less revs when cruising on the motorway seems that one tooth bigger at the front is what I need not fussed about the slight loss of acceleration thanks again

One tooth plus front means about %6 less rpms which is about -200 to -500 rpms.

See this for details about speeds and RPMs - http://www.gearingcommander.com/

up 1 on front will bring revs down slightly  will also slow acceleration a little

bear this in mind :? if your doing 90% motorway miles fine
but if your doing a lot of traffic work you`ll be jumping up n down that gear lever like a pogo stick
speed linit is 70mph   so you get away with 80mph on a motorway  not 100mph +
so why not just ease off the throttle abit :lol

Exactly, initially I was also thinking to go 17/47, but after some thoughts I've decided that I do not do too much motorway miles. Because of my traffic work I have gone the other route 14/49  :lol

plus 1 on the front for me, been using it for 50 000 miles. Can pull the wheel forward enough for a new tyre to scrape the hugger though. Standard chain. It's the equivalent of minus 3 on the rear. Much better.

Typed this here before I realised I wasn't u reading the thread Val started on sprockets

"I'm confused Val, looking at the gearing commander, all you've done is effectively to make your new 6th gear the Sam as your old 5th, your new 5 th gear is your old 4th and your new 4th is your old 3rd. With the changes to 1st and 2nd gear ratio's I can only assume you're going drag racing - and you don't care about fuel economy.

To my simple mind, just by never going above 5th gear, you'd have pretty much the same effect, without spending any money on sprockets/chain etc.

Like I say, I'm confused - some will think me a numbskull, but I just don't understand changing the gearing this way, unless the bike is so grossly over geared so that it won't pull top gear (which isn't the case on the Fazer)".

for our Fazer, when it's time to replace the chain, I'm going up one tooth on the front sprocket and down two teeth on the rear - can keep standard length chain.
