inline fuse for datatool alarm
#1
Hi All I am new to the forum. I got knocked off my bike last week  Sad the following day my indicators stopped working on the way home :\ in the morning couldn't get it to start probably because alarm kept beeping and ran battery down when i tired to put the bike in to service mode,I striped down the front fairing to look at the damage but took the inline fuse out hoping to stop the alarm, I now find myself with no indicator operation when the alarm is set or goes off and the bike will only start by jump start :'( it says that if starter motor (assume that means electronic start) fails to function check battery or inline fuse, well battery was fully charged last night but still no indicator when alarm goes on or off, can't see any blown inline fuse but who knows, thought i would check see what type of fuse is needed but cant find any information on what size fuse to get, any ideas please? also when it says starter motor fails to function does this mean the electric starter doesn't work?

Yes, the starter motort  is the electric  starter. Have you replaced the fuse you removed? Have you checked it's working? I had my Datatool removed recently cos it appeared to be draining the battery. The local bike shop agreed and removed it, but it still discharged! Ended up replacing rectifier too. All OK now but this replace-it-and-see approach is my approach and I expected better from pros.  Apparently removing the alarm requires secret knowledge available only to Datatool cognoscenti, for obvious reasons. I imagine if you disable the alarm by eg removing the fuse, you also disable starting circuits including the starter motor. If the alarm keeps triggering, it could well be faulty and you might want to think about removing it. But get a second opinion here!

if the battery dies (low power) the system enters "Sleep" mode; your observations sound like a sleep mode; hold the button down on the transmitter and turn the ignition on whilst keeping the button down - what happens

can you make the alarm enter Service Mode ?

have you also tried to override using the default "0000" PIN

If all the above fail to correct the problem then you probably have a bad earth  to the alarm unit; if you can access the alarm I can guide you through troubleshooting  but FIRST please ensure your try the above procedures otherwise troubleshooting will not work
