Gear box
#1
Well not a good day I have had a noise from the bike for a week or so seemed to be getting louder. So I had the bike shop check it out the findings not very good.  Main gear box bearing gone (probably) to fix it £££££ (£800 ish labour and parts )  :'(

The temptation to put a good used motor in the bike rather than shell out for the repair would be all too much..

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it..

A replacement engine seems the better option (just a case of finding a good one).

Did someone mention my name?

Main bearing on an FZ6? If the output shaft bearing has gone, then it probably means that the chain has been run too tight by a previous owner... That's what normally kills them, you will be lucky if it hasn't taken the bearing on the other end of the shaft with it. Normally its about £300-400 all in

Hi Deefer666

Thank you for the reply.

Over tight chain could be the issue as I had to change the chain and sprocket not long after I bought it. It had a few stiff links causing a clicking as it went around not in great condition.

If only I have had quotes of £800+

Save yourself £400, stick it on a bike trailer, adn take it to Molesworth. Works out at 120 miles each way: a small price to have the God of Fazers breathe on it!  Big Grin

Sounds like a plan if I can source a trailer.

Thank you, it is about two hours from my house to you so not to bad. I am not able to do anything for a few weeks as I head to France on Friday for a mix of cave diving and visiting family over two weeks.

Although she is looking sorry for her self so needs fixing as soon as possible.
