Hernia op
#1
Well it makes a change from bike topics LOL, so I've got to have a hernia op, doctor offers choice of general anesthetic or local anesthetic, ????? I know what it means but does anyone have any comments / views / experience.
Any advise would be very very welcome. Fraser

PS, don't get me started about shaving my pubs

I have never had an operation so never been given a general anesthetic, I have had stitches with a local and also teeth taken out, so I d go local, stick with what I know.

i went general (too much of a tart & didnt want to see what was going on) had it at 10:00 & was told as soon as i came around & had a slash i could go home.
Happy days so i thought until i went to get out of bed & nearly fell over, later to find out they give you a jab in the op area whist your under to numb it so you can go home...... Dosey sods jabbed me slightly in the wrong place & numbed me leg.Didnt get home till later on that night

Had all mine done with  a 'general' Fraser.
Home a few hours later and back to normal after a week.
I've had a few 'generals' in the last 5 years - everything from bike crash bone repairs to major bypass stuff - and it's always a challenge to see how far down from ten I can count before I'm gone.  Never got lower than eight .
Some great drugs about these days Fraser.
Good luck

Dunno when you had your general, Paul, but they've improved massively in recent years - of course it does depend, to am extent on the patient, the aide effects are much reduced however...

Depending on the op, I might be the same!

Never got given a choice with mine, general and I felt shit after and took hours before I could go.
I was told it was keyhole but a while later when I removed the dressing there was a 4 inch scar!

Did something go pop when you last lifted yer wallet???? :lol

I had a pacemaker put in under local.
Its like going to the dentist, your apprehension is MUCH worse than the actual event.
I used to not give a foc, then I discovered Red Bull and now I don't give a flying foc !!!

Thanks for all your views and advice, on reflection I've decided to go with a general, I have a very active "fight or flight" instinct , had a few too many moments at the dentist !! so I think it will be best for everyone if I'm not awake. Thanks for all the good wishes. I will bore the forum to death when I'm stuck at home for a few days, Fraser
